Trail Description:
This place has one of the biggest Fat Tire Festivals anywhere. It has steep single for those who want the more gnarly approach. It also has nice access roads for those who just want to get a nice ride in. If you're a die-hard, you can ride to the top. However, there is the lift if you don't want the 3000+ vertical.
How to get there:
The good stuff is on the back side of Vail Mountain. The trails are all marked.

I rode up this twice. Definitely a physical ball balster for those of us who live closer to sea level. Great going up, the ride down was a blast and fast on the service vehicle trail. Will do it again.

if you have time for one run down this great mountain, do the 94 downhill. Absolutely beautiful, technical and can really get your heart pumping when you round a corner only to find a five foot drop in the middle of dense forests. P.S show some courtesy and avoid going down this trail if your not crazy-there is only room for complete nutz out here.

There's a trail called Matterhorn Trail ( i think). At the top f the gondola hang a right and the trail follows a ridgeline. The trail is unmarked and there are a couple of junction points that may take you to who knows where. The idea is to orient towards I-70; the trail will head towards that and eventually down to the town. The ride is excellent - under forest canopy, singletrack, fast, and to put it simply - fun.
