Ride Summary:
Technical trail at a motorcycle park
Trail Description:
Emma Long Park offers one of the most technically challenging rides in the area. It is a very tough ride. (There is a short beginner's loop however.) There isn't a lot of climbing here, but you will still get a good workout. Bouncing over the rocks and bolders as the trail twists and turns around the trees and cliffs. No real opportunities to gain speed on the downhill as they remain very twisty and technical. This park is a motorcycle park so expect some noise.
How to get there:
From Austin, take I-35 North to FM 2222 west of Loop 360 to a stop light. Take a left here up City Park Road. After a few miles of winding along City Park Road, take a left onto Oak Shores Road (follow the big "motorcycle trails" sign). The parking lot will be on the left.

a masterpiece ride...Helmet Importance: plunging into four ledges of steepdrop, my front tire popped in milliseconds, control was lost, endo and head hit rocky ledge and cracked helmet all the way through...I'm fine because of the helmet, without it: dead or braindead.

Definatley the most challenging trail in Austin. Highly technical with all the drops and climbs. Not much speed to be gotten on this one but plenty of fun to be had. WHile I did get my rear end handed to me this time out....I will be back.

What an excellent trail. A lot of technical drops and really tough climbs. This trail is suitable for a hardtail, but i would advise bringing out your full suspension to take advantage of all the jumps and rocks. I went on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and didnt run into a soul on the trail. Good times were had.

started riding this back in the early 90's. Caught some some 20-25 mph downhill, expect the unexpected! Loads of fun drops and tight turns! There is one turn to the left taht, after rain is one heck of a great thrill!

I am from Oklahoma and took a mini mountain bike tour of Texas. We asked some guys at a lame trail at a park in Austin if there was a more technical trail around. They sent us to the motorcycle trails at Emma Long adding that if we went that we'd leave blood. Wow!!! There was no blood paid out to the mountain bike gods but there were certainly close calls. We loved it. Almost nothing but rock ledges and technical trickery to get down the slopes. My butt sat right over my rear wheel more than it did anywhere else. I didn't mind my bike riding me back up the inclines because I knew Iwould get a great ride down the other side. Go ride this trail!!!!

I have ridden all over the country and
this is one of my favorite rides.
Anyone who says you should get rid
of your pads is a fool. I ride with full
armor and will continue to do so.
The drops are great and the climbs
are historic. I've never had a bad ride
and I've never made the loop without
having to get off the bike. My helmet
is off to the guy who can ride the
whole thing (I want to see it done
though) Bring lots of water in the
summertime. The park was built by
the motorcycle trials riders and I
always thank them for letting us play.
