Trail Description:
This trail is on Bolinas Ridge which overlooks Point Reyes National Park and the Pacific Ocean. It begins with open meadows offering magnificent veiws of Point Reyes and the surrounding countryside. About half way you enter thick Redwood forest of great beauty. It is a long, gentle climb the way out and fast and easy on the way back. For sheer beauty, it is one of the premiere rides of the Bay Area.

How to get there:
From highway 101 take the Sir Francis Drake Blvd exit. Follow it Westward for about fifteen miles. You will top a ridge and see the ocean below you. There will be cars parked along side the road at the ridge crest. Park here. The entrance is on the North side of the road, a small double track break in the fence, just East of the ridge line.

what is an out and back type ride

Nice easy climb to an elevated ridge that runs south from Olema. Choice is an out and back to the far end or drop into the forest or to the # 1 for a quick descent. Not a bad ride for an easy work out

Not a bad trail. Primarily wide open with little shade. Although great views of surrounding country side, not quite in range of the ocean, contrary to the aforementioned comments. Consistent incline/decline hills test shifting skills. Lot's of gates, but doesn't really bother me, kinda makes for a nice water break. Not bad for a wide open trail.

My favorite trail in the Bay Area. However, if you ride all the way up to the Bolinas Rdige/Fairfax road the total miles are 22. Also, the SW view of the Pacific Ocean and SF peninsula from near the top is peerless on a clear day. This trail has everything, varied terrain, technical fast downhills, sun, shade, wildlife. It is the best...!

This trail is cool and I agree with the comments. The only thing is that you can't see the ocean at the crest of the hill and the trail starts on the south side of the road. Also if you ride this trail on a sunny day-START EARLY-because in the section of meadows there is no shade, and the only way to cool off is to get to the redwoods, or dunk in a ghiardia infested cow watering hole along the way. But all-in-all it is a great trail. Oh yeah, watch out for cow pies!!!
