Trail Description:
Holzinger lodge trail is the best single track trail around the area. There is a lot of technical climbing and descending. This trail of all the trails around the area reminds me most of riding in Colorado, of course with out the lung busting altitude.
How to get there:
The trail is located in Winona and is accessed by taking the Huff Street exit off of Highway 61. Instead of turning towards the university you take a Huff the opposite way and head along the frontage road to the north, Not to the south, this will take you to an overlook called garvin heights. Follow the frontage road north until you come to Holzinger Lodge which will be on the left hand side of the frontage road. Holzinger Lodge is a log lodge building.
Additional Notes:
This trail is maintained by the Winona area Mountain bike Club.

Great trail...don't have much of a basis for comparison seeing as I am a young Winona resident with a newfound love for Mt. Biking. Yes, this trail needs some signage, and now some TLC due to the recent flooding of the Winona area due to heavy rainfall which has caused some landslides, (only two of which I have found to have affected the main trails). If withing reasonable driving distance, definately check this one out! -Mt. bike version of the twilight zone! haha!-

The lack of maps and signage were a definite turn-off. Someone needs to get things organized there.

I drive 50 miles to ride this trail often. Be prepared to climb. Long technical climb to the top. Once on top you are greeted with fun, rolling singletrack and great views of Winona and the Mississippi. Best views after the leaves fall, you can see the entire trail winding on the hillside. For very difficult riding, take the upper trail that runs along the top of the ridge on the way back down. Very technical, rocky and a long descent at the end (lots of armpump).

The lack of signage was incredibly frustrating. There was a tackboard that had nothing on it. Please get a map or SOMETHING for people who are just swinging through. The only parts we hit were rocks on mud covered in leaves. With some signs, this could be a decent trail. Until then, dont bother!

Found the trail much fun. The climb up loosended a couple of critical screws on my bike but a good samaritan at the neighborhood on top of bluff supplied some tools to fix-er-up. Nice views of Winona and Ol' Miss river from the top. It is well manicured singletrak with a couple wooden bridges and only a few spots that are overgrown. The problem I found with the trail is that it has absolutely no signage except for the entrances and it is a maze of trails. I believe I rode up the intended down track and down the intended up track. I was determined to ride down a different way than the path I rode up but three times ended up in the same spot -it was like a mountain biking version of the twilight zone.

Really nice trail. Good technical sections and fast downhill sections. Lots of trail choices when you get on top. The trail is little overgrown though. Trail maintainance has been lacking this year. Lots of branches and undergrowth hanging over the trail. It used to be alot more clear with only the occasional scratch on the arm if you veered off a little. Now ou can ride right down the middle and get cut up pretty bad. But other than that it's a great trail!! Don't let a couple scratches discourage you. It's well worth it!!
