Trail Description:
The terrain is very rocky, and can be treacherous when wet. There are 15 or 16 log crossings (some of them are pretty big), a couple of stream crossings, some rocky climbs, and a couple of fast, scetchy descents. Overall, this is a very cool trail to go out and have fun on. Oh yeah, there's even a cool north shore type bidge up and over a big log.
How to get there:
Rt 206 N from Newton, NJ to park entrance(about 20 min. from Newton) Drive past Ranger Station and continue straight untill road comets to a "T", turn left and enter parking area, this is the Kittle Field parking lot. Ride out of lot to the left on road and go up hill to Stony Lake, take the Swenson trail. Keep left at all trail intersections and you will make a loop. There are many more trails if you have all day>
Additional Notes:
The State Rangers are very tolerant of mountain bikers and many of them ride themselves, so be nice!

Great to know that this is now avaialble to psuure! My mom,OSH, grandma, CMPS, and Aunt Nan Mitchel had a wealth of information and correspondence. I look forward at some future time in my retirement to perusing the collection.Sincerely, Daniel L. Hatch

Swenson Trail was an awesome ride with a little of everything. If you park at the rangers station and ride your bike in, there is no charge to get into the park. It is about 3 1/2 miles to ride from the ranger station to Stony Brook Parking lot, the start of Swenson Trail(Follow the Red dots out of the parking lot)

I wrote the review and made a mistake. When you ride out of the parking lot, go RIGHT and up to Stony Lake. Sorry if anyone got lost!
