Trail Description:
Lost Boys is a fairly smoot ride. It's not too technical though it offers some steep hills in places. It can get muddy so give the trail a few days to dry out after a rain. The loop ends with a great finish.

Look out for deer.

How to get there:
Take 17N from Hampton/Newport News to Fort Eustis Blvd Rt. 105. Take a left then the entrance is about 1 1/2 miles down on the right before Deer Run Golf Course. There's not alot of parking. Look for Richnek Rd. on your left and the entrance will be to the right.

This is one of newport news' best kept secrets. i've been riding trails in this area for years & never heard of it. i'm told that it's kind of a "don't ask don't tell" situation between the riders & the park rangers. so i'll do all i can to keep the trail "open". i usually ride harwood's mill in nn, but this one has a bit more obstacles & bridges, which make for a fun ride, but not too advanced.

From harwoods mills expert trail: After exiting the supposed "Expert" trail turn right and carefully cross the street (Denbigh Blvd), take the fire road and bear to the left at the first and second "Y's" in the road, along the way you will pass a model airplane airfield, after 1.5 mi. the dirt road will intersect Richneck Rd (Rt 636) - make a right on this narrow 2 lane shoulderless road and after 0.5 mi. you will cross the very busy Ft Eustis Blvd (Rt 105) into a small dirt parking area, go straight down the fire road and bear to the right down the hill, the NN Municipal Golf Course can be seen on the left, the trail starts on the right down towards the bottom of the hill.

I made a ride-around for the downed tree at the beginning bear to your right. Next ride around is for a downed tree that has a broken ramp on it, bear to the left before you get to it, and the next one bear to your left before a huge logpile.

Just found this trail on the abandoned richneck rd if your coming from surrender road take the tour road look the number 1 signpost on the left take the dirt trail to the abandoned richneck road take a right when you come to a long downhill at the bottom there are 3 broken logs on the left, the trail is just past this starting from the opposite direction. About .2-.3 in there is one downed tree that is about waist high you can't go around. I had to lift my bike over and there is a few of the man made bridges that are partially broken that I didn't trust that I walked over but I loved this trail, a lot less rooty then the 3 trails at harwoods mills, my odometer said is was approx 3.3 miles. A very rideable trail i enjoyed, only had to stop 2-3 times for obstacles. I tried riding the Jumper trail at the first turnoff on the right at the yorktown battlefields, 5-6 downed trees within first 500 yards, gave up turned around.

i give it a 5, when it was up it was the best place to ride. its still there all trees are cleared but its just gotten down hill. now id give it a 2. if any one would go out there and clean it up a bit i bet people would go. i learned how to 360 and tailwhip there

Trail is now closed due to timber company logging area. I attempted to ride and only made it 300 meters into trail before stopping. This is as of 01 April 2006.

After that area was officially designated a protected wet lands area you could still sneak a ride, but Hurricane Isabelle destroyed this trail. There are dozens of BIG trees down across the trail and because it's in an official wet lands area the maintainers could not clear the trail or run new legs.

the park is closed until futher notice, according to the sign posted there

This trail is definately smoother and to me, one of the "best kept secrets" around the area to ride, have fun, and not feel to tired doing so.

After hearing about Lost Boys for a while, finaly went and rode there. It's a good break from Harwood. Not as long but fun.
