A very good climb to warm you up will get you to a fork in the road. Go right to continue up Iron Mtn or left to Ellie trail which is longer and a bit more technical. At the summit you will find a free telescope, which is always in good working order, and a mail box. The descend is fast and fun. Be careful of hikers and dangerous switch-backs.

How to get there:
From I8 take the 67N to Poway Rd and park on the right. The trail head is right there.

Trilha basicamente para hikers. Para mtb nao recomendo. Muitos melhores trihas existem - Lake Poway, Mission trails, Cowles mtn.

I rode this trial by my motorcross bike and the people that i met during my ride were not nice at me.They insulted me. However, I enjoyed the ride to the top of Mount Iron...wonderful view! I will do it again and again.Bye

Excellent downhill area. Closest to Noble probably without the 45 minute drive. Its one of my daily trails. Awesome. Watch for unfriendly hikers, if they don't move, take em for the ride too. A lot of the trail walkers are trying to improve the area by putting down rocks as water deters. There is everything there. The Ramona outlook is awesome. Climb to the peak you might be walking. If your looking for an adrenaline rush, this is the place to go.

This trail is awesome. It isn't all that great going up. About 50% is hike-a-bike, but is is very awesome coming down! Very technical, and very steep in some parts, but is %100 ridable. Yeah, it may not be good for those people who can't handle technicals or is worried about scratching their Specialized. Keep to the cemented bike path pansy!

This is one of those trails that gets my heart pumping before I even saddle up! This is definitely a great, very technical ride that will challenge the most experienced rider. It probably should be rated somewhere between weekend warrior and masochistic. You should be is top form to ride this (and I do mean ride!) trail. Start at the parking area at the intersection of Poway Road and Highway 67. It will be obvious where to park. Take the marked trail to the east and go up and up and up until you reach a intersection or tee. A right at the tee goes to the top of Iron Mountain and is the easiest and shortest path. Of course as you are riding this you will be thinking back and panting "this is the easiest?" The top is about 3 miles. A left at the tee will take you to a longer, even more difficult trail with many drop offs and steeeeeeep climbs. It is all good!!!! Take plenty of water and extra energy as you will probably need them. Suspension is a must...

This is not much of a mountain biking trail. It is much too technical and full of hikers. There are much better places to ride in San Diego.

This is NOT a weekend warrior set of trails. They are steep and technical, both up and down. There are a lot of switchbacks with erosion logs, combined with the steepness of the trail may have you hoofing it. About 1.5 miles in off 67 you'll hit a sign where you can go right to iron mountain or left towards the Ellie Lane loop. Going left will be rewarded with some of the most awesome views to the east. I could see for 50 miles with no manmade objects in sight. Beautiful, but tough. Watch out for the hikers or you might pulverize someone. When I rode this trail I broke my chain, potato-chipped my rear wheel, did a great endo face plant on a downhill, and came back mangled and bleeding. Fun for all! :)
