Trail Description:
A few loops of fire roads with a lot of single track branching off. Some really good single track with a lot of rolling terrain. There's no map available but for the most part everything is a loop. If you find your self going down hill and end up at a lake with a distinct water crossing for 4x4 only you know you have reached the witness protection area. That's what the rumor is at least. The lake also piggy backs Innisfree Gardens. The same lake that has some really cool rock sculptures and landscapes.
How to get there:
The parking lot is off the taconic parkway between Tyrrel rd and Rossman rd (which is between the rt. 44 exit and the rt. 55 exit). But the parking lot is only on the northbound side. You have to pass it southbound and cross over to the northbound lane on Rossman.
The sign is a brown sign with yellow letters and is small and comes up very fast ( 1/4 mile past Rossman ) and reads Taconic Hereford Multi-use area 909 Acres.
Additional Notes:
Not a lot of people and a lot of real good single track. Atleast all day to ride everything.

There is some typical jeep-track that is simple and uninspiring. But if you venture further in, there is a serpentine section of single track that seems to have been designed for a mountain bike. Just hard enough to keep your heart rate down while you negotiate a tricky hairpin or thread a needle, then back on the gas for some rollers and fast up/downs. I would say this section is as good as it gets in the east. We were grinning for two laps (about 25 minutes per lap) in this section, on the side of the second ridge in from the lot.

Thanks to all the prior comments. Without them we would not have ventured an hour north to discover what a great place 909 was. The best part was toward the east side of the park, where we looped around tricky single track for hours. Kudos whoever created that route. The elevation was not too severe yet the serpentining trail (unmarked) was filled with nice technical obstacles at varying speeds. I would recommend you head as far east as you can go till you hit the end of Tyrrel Rd and find the trail head at the end of the cul de sac. Ride up and have a ball. I never was able to make it over to Tyrrel lake which I thought would be a fun and scenic ride. The fire roads around are good for MTB novices so there is certainly plenty for all abilities. Have fun!!!

The Tirell Road entrance is .8 miles north of the entrance descibed off the Taconic, and 2 miles south of Rt 44.
BTW, there are various informal campsites on the main roads through the area, drive around and look for fire rings at the pull-offs and you'll be there.

One of the best places to ride in eastern NY.
I've found that www.RideSpot.com has the best forum to find other ny riders and 909 topics.

This is one of the better rides in the area. A few notes to the directions. The name of the street the park comes right after is ROSSWAY and you will pick up the gravel road for the park just after mile marker 52.3. Once you pass Rossway Rd. Slow down. The turn comes up fast and you might not have time to make it. There is tons of riding here so plan on spending some time to find the better trails.
