Trail Description:
This trail goes from Montauk Hwy to Bethpage State park and then connects to the many mountain bike trails accessable from Bethpage. It passes several lakes and crosses the highway.

How to get there:
Montauk Hwy in Massapequa, starts at the lake.

Additional Notes:
Best early in the A M when the traffic (bike, joggers and skateboarders) is at a minimum.

FYI--For clarification... Montauk Highway is actually MERRICK ROAD in Nassau county. Merrick Rd. becomes Montauk highway at Route 110 in Amityville.

Good change of pace. No up hill challenges, but many, many switchbacks which can be challenging especially with all of the protruding roots. Be careful because the dirt path is supposed to be for hikers only. It gets better when you get to the Bethpage part of the ride (as mentioned above). When you reach Syosset the uphill challenges increase drastically and turns into a 5 rated trail. The whole Greenbelt trail is to long to ride in one day. Most people start at Syosset because that is the most gruelling and challenging part of the Greenbelt.

long paved stretches with many off shoots into single track adventures...fun but not demanding.
