Trail Description:
Nice ride inside of Sam Houston State Park. Follow the agressively blue spray painted trees for the trail. There are several branch offs to extend the ride. A few blind turns, so pay attention. Lately they have been having 'time trials' on the trail and really littering up the trail with all types of tape and direction arrows. Looks trashy when they don't clean up their mess.
How to get there:
Off I-10 trhough Lake Charles head north on hwy 171 towards Moss Bluff and foolow State Park signs.
Additional Notes:
Please don't litter, be careful of pedestrians

Decent fun ride. Around 5 miles. It's back to being decent after the hurricanes. Lot of pinestraw, and some beachsand sections are hairy if you are hauling....
The Yellow trail is now open, so you have about 3/4 of a mile or so as a turnaround loop on one end.
Watch for trail runners/walkers, and some large wildcats.

This is a simple, short trail. The riders who commented that it was somewhat hilly with a technical section have probably never ridden out of the state; its as easy as they come. My 4 year old son will be riding it with me soon. All in all, its still nice to have any type of trails in this area of the country (which is why its a 3). Great if you live in Lake Charles but don't drive in for it.

Fun short single track. Trail thrashed since hurricane, check before going, still closed as of 7/2006. Was fun, mix of short climbs. Relative ease of trail makes it a fast ride. If you like slow technical stuff, you'll be bored, if you have legs of a roadie, you'll enjoy it as you'll fly through the woods. I would not drive over an hour and a half to ride it.....but if passing through give it a ride, its fun. Warning, people ride it both directions!

I give it four because of what it is where it is. It is in the flattest part of the universe, yet they managed to find some slightly rolling hills to build a trail. No, it's not Austin or Moab, but those of us who get to ride it every day after work consider ourselves extremely lucky to have it. Don't drive hours to do it, but if you happen to be in the area, it's worth the trip.

The trail at Sam Houston provides agood workout. There are some technical bits to the trail bu overall its a good saturday ride. the only reason that i gave it a 3 was that it is too short. oh yeah, dont worry about the "Advanced Riders Only" section of the trail unless its been raining a lot or you still have training wheels.

A few good trails and a lot of roots to jump. The park sure does need to be kept clean.
