Trail Description:
Water Canyon links West Jemez Rd (NM 501) to Forest Road 181. The lower half is an easy climb to Sawmill meadow. The upper half is a steeper climb on tight single track with rocky places. Good for honing both climbing and downhill riding skills

How to get there:
From Los Alamos, Trinity west to Diamond Drive. Go south on Diamond over the bridge and swing right onto W. Jemez Rd. Drive about 4 miles and you will see a small dirt road cutting in from the west (right) side. Turn in there and park in the small parking lot. If you hit NM 4 at the T intersection, you've gone too far.

Additional Notes:
This trail can be combined with Forest Road 181 at Armstead Spring an NM 4 to make a loop ride

Dead end above the old dam. Trail turns to a bushwacker a few hundred yards above sawmill meadow. The old dam provides a small 15 x 8 x 1.5 foot pond for dogs to cool off in. Nice hike, but trail above dam, if there is one, will need a lot of work to find.

This trail was a great ride here in los alamos but due to a recent Forest fire this trail was decemated (may 2000)this trail among others will require a couple of years to replenish itself.
