This area offers some fabulous mountain biking in Coeur d'Alene. You can take the fire roads up 2-3 miles then attack the awesome roller coaster singletrack back down. You can also spend the whole day on nothing but singletrack. There are many trails here and they are all well marked so getting lost isn't an option.

How to get there:
From Post Falls head East on I-90. Take the 15th Street Exit in Coeur d' Alene and turn left. After about a mile, turn right onto Nettleton Gulch Rd. At the end of the road you will see the parking area and the entrance to the trails.

the trails on canfield are great! people like to think that motorcycles are ruining the place. if you hang out on the mountain in the spring and watch the water flow.it runs right down the trail. there are no water breaks on the trails anymore. and that is the real problem going on out there. most of the trails i have ridden are void of water breaks. which causes the erosion and ruts. also riding the trails when they are wet is wrecking them too. dirt bike or mountain bike are too blame.

I've been riding Canefield for 7 years now and I would say there is something for everyone. You can go as hard as you want or just take it easy and enjoy the views. The trails are well maintained and fun to ride. Stop at the BLM office on Kathleen and pick up a map for worry free riding.

was reading through some of the earlier post and noticed some anti motorcycle post. remember they are our friends and fight just as hard as anyone out there to keep our trails open. They are also known to puts some elbow grease into maintaining the trails. So please be considerate and share the trails and use common sense when riding in multi use areas. We all like to get out and ride.

it is a beginners place i ride dh an not that fun to push the bike up but so much fun to come down and i just started to ride dh for this year. the only thing is the motorcyles rip up the dirt so big erosion problems so if you can ride up don't to much of a pain and sorry to say but they need to kick off the motos

Best routes I've found so far: 1. take Penn Trail up to Penn Station. From there take Trail A to the Jump Station. Take Jump Trail (trail 9) to Trail 10 down to the Fernan shooting range. After that you've got about a 8 - 10 mile pavement ride back to the Canfield parking lot. 2. Well, now that I think about it, pretty much any route there is good, but be careful on the access road...lots of dirtbikes. Also watch out for bears.

P.S. NOT for beginners. Farragut State Park is a good place if your just starting out.

No, not a beginner place. As said before, if you stick to the fire roads maybe, but still a good climb. The trails vary from excellent single track to ripped up rutted rock fests. I have been riding here for thirteen years, nearly daily. Yes, there was some tire deflation going on a few years ago but haven't heard of it for a few years. Stop by a local bike shop and hook up with a local for a tour of the good trails.
