Trail Description:
With the parking lot at the top of Turkey Mountain and no maps available, remember: "Up is out" if you get lost! The number of trails seems infinite to newcomers of the mountain. However, it is most often ridden in loops, which may take anywhere from 45 minutes to nearly 2 hours depending on which trails you take. Expect to see trails branching off in every direction, giving you numerous choices and a headache to find the awesome trail you found last week! Also, expect short, steep climbs, and short, steep decents. Some fast, some easy, some technical, some downright insane! All skill levels can ride here, but a beginner needs a local to show them to the easy stuff. You can get into technical, rocky trails very quickly. Thickly wooded.

How to get there:
Just a couple of minutes from Tulsa. From HWY 75, take 71st Street exit and go east to Elwood (1st traffic light). Go north (left) to the top of the hill & you're there at the parking lot. From Tulsa, head west on 71st Street & go across the river to Elwood, go north (right). Most guys in the parking lot will be happy to ride with you and show you the trails, or go explore on your own!

Additional Notes:
Worthy of full suspension, but not absolutely necessary.

Oklahoma city has far better rides. If your stuck in Tulsa then you don't really have much of a choice but try get to okc for a much better selection of dirt.

I've been riding Turkey since the 80's and I've watched the park 'grow-up.' The new parking area on the South end is very nice & has RRs with running water. The signed trails (Yellow, Blue, Red, & Pink) are great but Turkey offers many more interconnecting trails than the main four. Adventerous cyclists will also want to try the Snake, the Ho Chi Mihn, & the YMCA. For variety, try entering the park from the lesser used North entrance (behind the Pepsi Bottling Plant off of the I-44 access road at the Elwood Exit. Newcomers to Turkey should stick to the main 'colored' trails until you get VERY oriented. As one gets more at-home, there are a BUNCH of other trails to pick from like the 'Snake,' the 'Ho Chi Mihn,' the 'Ponds,' and more. UPDATE: a recent wildfire blackened the North end of the park- mostly near the YMCA. But dirt doesn't burn and a lot of the trees hadn't even lea

Have been riding here for a few years now and still don't know the mountain very well. The information at the top is wrong but a new website has been developed and new maps have been made. All the work/maintenance has been done by volunteers and they have been doing an exceptional job of it. I would say that most areas are far more advanced then beginner trails but with a little determination a beginer can make it through.

Sunday April 13,2008. Quick ride to the mountain, Turkey that is. Its 44 degree, wind blowing from NNW 16mph. Trail is wet, muddy, and slick in some area. Incounter 1 jogger and dog. Time of ride begin at 0730, starting at 81st and lewis. Ride end at 0930 ETA back at starting point. High for today about 60 degree. Some area are to muddy for climb. Took the Lo HO Chi, came out to the top where the close parking lot. Descent down the trail that runs parallel along elwood back to main trail exiting toward parking lot. Down to pave trail that runs along the railroad. A lot warmer and less windy when you're on turkey. This is the 6th ride and one crash, in the rock section. It defitnitely is a good early morning workout. This is the first ride on turkey after a storm. Have to try it during the winter and the summer rain.

My first MTB experience of Turkey Mountain was pretty grueling. But the more I ride the better it gets. Its only been my fith ride, last one was April 5,2008. Three crashes, no serious injuries. Not familiar with trail directions enough, to give any directions. Lots of friendly and courtious hikers. And what is that funny smell? Anyone know.

Andrew, there is a spot on the west side of the power lines that has wooden bike jumps, some of them arent very stable so be careful.

A note on the description: the parking lot at the top of the hill has been closed since about 2001, new facility about 2/8 mile south on Elwood. There are probably 20 miles of trails all laid out. Expect to see hikers, trail runners, families, equestrian users and unfortunately the occasional illegal trials rider. I love this trail system, it shows wear, but is a great multi-user park.

I think the link to the map has changed, found it again though. http://www.riverparks.org/Maps/tm_map.htm

The trails are lovely. For being such a popular place, you can sure go a while without running into anybody. If you are a nerd like myself and enjoy fossil hunting wherever you go, there are some interesting sphenopsid fossils lurking in the rocks around the Mountain. Have fun! =o) The mountain only gets 4 stars because it is a smelly mountain. Phew! Be considerate of hikers - they have right to the trails too :o)
