You can make High Lonesome a loop by taking the Caribu trail (or it's offshoot to the right) down to Strawberry Creek. When you hit Strawberry, you can add in an additional loop by heading north and coming back on the opposite side. When you start to head back south, you will eventually hit Medow Creek Res. Rd. and can either bomb down the road to US40, or go back up it and retrace your original route on High Lonesome back to the Devils Thumb trailhead. There are numberous ways to do this ride including hooking it into Doe Creek (near lake granby) but however you go, be prepared for an EPIC. Our normal ride time is 6-8 hrs.of intense riding. Be sure you've got a good map and lots of food and water.

You have got to be a mountaib biking machine to climb on the High Lonesome Trail. I prefer to descend on the trail -- not that I don't like epic rides, but if you're gonna kill yourself you might as well do it on a loop ride. I picked up the latest Mt . Bike Guidebook for Winter Park (it just came out in May). It's called DIRT:The best of Winter Park ... , it gives you all the goods in a great format. I got it from Amazon.com for $12.95. I guesss they are donating $1 back to trails so I feel good about the author. Have
