Ride Summary:
Beginner's step up! This is a great trail to improve your skills without dealing with lung burning climbs.

Trail Description:
Salmon Falls' rolling terrain makes for a fun ride, especially if you're not a big fan of long climbs. Don't be fooled by the first third of a mile. This is the hardest part of the whole ride. There aren't a lot of technical challenges, just fast rollercoaster singletrack. There are, however a few dangerous sections that make the ride unsuitable for novice riders. The ride is out and back, but there are a few alternate routes and spur trails worth exploring along the route as well. The trail is rideable all year long, but is generally pretty busy during the summer and weekends.

How to get there:
From Sacramento go East on I-50 to Eldorado Hills. Take the Eldorado Hills Blvd. Exit and go North. Stay on this road until you see the Salmon Falls sign. You can either park along the road before the bridge for free or parking one of the pay lots by the trail head.

It would be a better trail if there weren't so many rocks sticking out of the ground on the trail path itself, other than that it would've been a fun ride.

Great ride. Be careful of the first 1/3 of a mile. Since the trail runs both ways there is no room for error. There is poison oak as well so keep your eyes open.

Ride it often - lots of fun, can be easy or hard depending on you. If you have the nads, do the MM trail off the top of the climb that Gary mentions below. Don't do this one alone!!!! You get hurt out there and only the animals will find you. Bring plenty of water, spare tubes, and tools. I bonked last weekend on the tough climb in the middle of Mickey Mouse. Getting home from there was tough. Good trail.

Great trail that I have ridden for 10 years. Don't let the start section intimidate you.

The name of this trail is the Darrington trail, guys. Not the Salmon Falls trail.

There is no sign that says "Salmon Falls" near the trailhead. Actually, El Dorado Hills Blvd turns into Salmon Falls Rd at the intersection with Green Valley Rd. Once the road becomes Salmon Falls Rd, the trailhead is about 4 1/2 miles further, just on the north side of the American River, which is crossed by Salmon Falls Bridge.

Well,in the summer bring plenty of water or die. I have been fortunate enough to see a rattlesnake everytime I have gone up on Salmon falls-in the summer, but I am lucky like that, I see them everytime I go to annadale in SR too. This is a great ride, but watch out for the guys that say-"watch out for the novice riders", those guys usually come screamin down the trail with no regard for the bikers, hikers and poor rattlesnakes. I love the First part of the trail-especially the boulders and the dropoff.Happy trails fellow mtn bikers, stay safe.
