Trail Description:
You ready for some spectacular scenery? The Flume will without a doubt satisfy. This ride is one of the most scenic anywhere. You will experience narrow trails carved out of steep hillsides, long climbs, quick descents, and most importantly, great views of majestic mountain lakes. From Spooner, head towards the lake where you'll find the trailhead. Follow the trail to Marlett Lake and start your climbing. At the lake, go left and head around the lake. This trail will take you to the Flume Trail at it's end. The trail will drop down into Incline Village. From here, turn right up a little hill, past one spur trail on the right and start a fast and steep decent. Don't go too fast or you'll miss your turn to the right. Take the spur trail to the right and follow it until you cross a bridge over a creek. On the far side of the bridge, turn right up the hill. Keep right at the intersections and follow the signs back towards Marlett Lake. At Marlett Lake, take a breather and get yourself ready for the upcoming decent. Turn left up the hill and then scream back down to Spooner Lake.
How to get there:
This ride is on the East side of Lake Tahoe. Spooner Lake is near the intersection of HWY 28 and HWY 50. From Carson City or Lake Tahoe, just take HWY 50 and follow the signs.
Additional Notes:
This trail is extremely popular so early morning and weekday rides are strongly recommended.

Gorgeous trail with excellent views of Lake Tahoe - as good as it gets. It can get very crowded on weekends, best to ride early in the morning or during weekdays. The ride is not super technical, until you get to the Tahoe Rim Trail for the return trip - lots of twisties, uphill, with boulders and loose sand. You must not be afraid of heights - in some parts the trail is very exposed, with a pretty steep ravine - you crash there and you will have more than a few cuts and bruises. If you want to add to your workout, there's a junction at the end of the Flume Trail - one is a fast and sandy downhill to Highway 28 which you may go down and back up to burn a few extra calories.
Altogether an excellent ride - definitely recommended.

I have ridden for years and raced the last couple,
XC and DH. My only comments is that not every
trail has to be about speed and technical abilities.
Sometimes a trail should be about exploring and
views, and this is the perfect trail for that. My wife
and Ienjoyed it immensely. We will save the
technical thrills for another day.

very nice ride with killer views of the lake. the uphill is not very difficult. it is a wide fire trail like ascent. once to the top is levels out for a long time with some pretty relaxing riding as you admire the view. I go tahoe a lot and can tell you this is the best view of the lake i have ever had. amazing. The downhill portion is fun to bomb down but is not technical or challenging. no big jumps or anything that i found. the main thing here is to get on the mountain and enjoy the view and the leisurely pace as you pedal along the ridge and next to the alpine lake.

Well, I will admit, the view is amazing, second to none, however, unless you are some spandex weight weeny you might get bored. I have done this ride several times. I will climb up Tunnel Creek and ride the flume or take the Tahoe Rim Trail around the backside of Marlett Lake. This is a total GAPER trail though. I see sooo many kooks riding there. I usually don't ride there anymore cuz I prefer something more technical and downhill oriented. Overall the view is amazing but again, its a gaper caper up there. I really hate tourists and that's all there is on the flume- a bunch of posers.

This trail is tremendously overrated. The scenery is fantastic, but it is crowded and the flume singletrack is so gentle as to barely qualify as a downhill. I did many great rides in the tahoe area, but I can only recommend this one if your idea of riding is more about the view than the trail
