Trail Description:
Deception Pass State Park offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the state. Trails go from high rocky bluffs with amazing views of the San Juan Islands down to the sandy shores of the Puget Sound. There are several trails throughout the park, but one of the most spectacular trails starts from the parking lot on the far side of the bridge in the park.
How to get there:
From Everett, drive North on I-5. Exit at Mount Vernon and turn left into town. Follow the signs for hwy 536 to hwy 20. Follow hwy 20 west. After about 20 miles hwy 20 will split. Turn left onto the main part of hwy 20. Then look for signs for Deception Pass State Park. Park your car in the lot on the right immediately across the bridge.
Additional Notes:
These trails get very crowded with tourists except in the winter months. Plan accordingly.

Meroko30/09/2008 10:52 pm I'd be interested to know what kind of resopnses these resumes get. I don't deny they are very creative and inventive, but with most jobs these days going into an automated database (uploading word docs), are these resumes really working for them? I hold out hope that they are, I'd love to design a resume as inventive as some of these are.

the directions in the discription are really bad. getting to deception pass is real easy. take hwy 5 to burlington, turn left on hwy20 take it all the way to anacortes, turn left on hwy 20. 15 mins later you're there.

Great place to ride. Excellent workout due to a few of the climbs. One whould be careful. There are areas where gravity can take over and do bad things to you and your bike. There is some stinging nettle on a couple of the trails but it can be avoided if you know what it looks like. If you don't know, you will soon. In the spring and summer there are hikers. Give way and they'll do the same. The people are generally very freindly and are more than willing to step aside...just don't freak them out by blasting up on them.
Have fun.

These are pretty good trails...the tourists are annoying, as the other people said. Go in the winter. And Deception Pass is about 30 minutes from Mt. Vernon.

Overall easy ride with some rocky technical cliff runs where the wrong lines can send you a hundred feet straight down! Watch out for RV style hikers who don't know they should get the hell out of your way

Fun trails if you live close by and need somewhere to ride after work. A couple of places with switshbacks and steep climbs but fairly easy for all skill levels.

Don't even attempt to ride here in the summer and spring, way too many tourist hikers. This area is scenic but offers little in trail quality. The "Goose Rock" ascent/descent across from the main parking lot is the best offering. Bowman Bay and Rosario Beach also offer some fun coastal rides on the Fidalgo side of the bridge. Just follow the signs.

These trail are NOT in Mt. Vernon. They are located on Fidalgo and Whidbey Islands. Large portions of these trails are crowded with WALKING TOURISTS in the summer months, but if you delve further into this state park there are wonders to behold. I ride almost every day in this vicinity. I start at Hopyous(spelling) preserve and ride from there to coronet bay and into deception pass state park then all around there and back to hopyous on wider trails that horsers use. I can ride here all day and never have to ride the same trail twice but there is a bit of road riding to link up the sections.Trails are also varying from single-track to some wider stuff. The maximun climb is about 1000' but you climb it over and over again as the trails wind arount the edge of the islands and over the tops. Weekend warrior is an acceptable rating but some sections are VERY steep and technical. I am willing to provide further information and guide visitors thru this trail system. I can be rea
