Trail Description:
In 1987 the Interurban trail was converted from a railway to a multi-use trail. The trail is very popular and used by pedestrians, equestrians and cyclists alike. The wide relatively flat gravel path is ideal for the entry-level mountain biker, or family outings.
How to get there:
From I-5 in Bellingham take exit #250. Turn West on Old Fairhaven Parkway. After about .5 miles you will see the trailhead on the left. Park here.

Hear on business, and heard a lot about the trail system. Starting at Fairhaven and heading south toward lost lake the trail ranges from smooth and easy to difficult. the Lost lake trail is steep and has some hike a bike sections, but is mostly ridable. I took the Chuckanut ridge ride and had to hike a bike the Dave's Traverse section, but was rewarded with some awesome rock bluff views to the east, and a fun twisty singletrack descent to the Laraby State park and back to the interurban trail. The trail is a bit confusing at points, but it is well used, and I received pointers from the locals on the trails when I became twisted around. Great system, worth moving here for.

This trail is for families, some interesting areas but nothing really higher than a low level intermediate trail if that, hmm who knows maybe I was riding the wrong parts of the trail because I have gotten better workouts from climbing stairs.

This comment is actually to reinforce what great mountain biking trails there are in Bellingham! The Interurban is actually just an access trail to Larrabee state park, other than that it doesn't really go anywhere and won't get your heart rate up. The best purpose it serves is a back door up to Galbraith trail riding are where there are TONS of single track trails. Another way to get there is to take the WWU exit off of I-5 and hang a Right (Not Left) toward Lake Padden. Take a Left on Galbraith Rd. and you'll see the cars parked at the FS road; the single tracks are all off of the FS switchbacks.

This is a good trail for beginners not to much in the way of terrain but a good place to get your cardio workout or a ride with the family for a picnic at one of the many scenic vistas along the way.
