Trail Description:
This is a very popular ride. There are a few trails here, all through protected old growth forest. The trails are softpack with only minimal technical sections. The trails are wide and fast. The trail around Mountain Lake is relatively flat, but if you're looking for a climb, then head for the top of Mt. Constitution. During the summer from May 15th through September 15th, the majority of trails are closed to cyclists.
How to get there:
The only ferry to Orcas is from Anacortes. There are long lines so plan ahead. Once on the island, from the Ferry, follow the signs to Moran State Park.
Additional Notes:
The most popular trail (up Mt. Constitution) was recently closed. A new trail is promised, but no d

I've ridden this ride three times and it's never
boring.
Made the ride to the top all three times on the
road. I often wondered to myself why didn't I
shuttle : ) You'll think the same thing too.
After arriving at the top and taking in the
breathtaking views, and catching my breath, I
enjoyed a Power Bar, took a few pics, then
peddled off to enjoy the 15 miles of singletrack
back to the truck.
This ride gets two thumbs up!!

The trail riding in Moran State Park is stellar for a state park. Although some trails are closed during the summer, there are trails open all year for bikes. The people at the bike shop, Wildlife Cycles, on Orcas, can give you the map to the goods.

AWESOME RIDE!!! The hike up is a memorable experience but it's made up for on the way down. Beware! The West Boundary hike is not for the lighthearted, be sure to bring extra water and food, but the ride down to twin lakes makes up for it. For those with full suspension and less than a full mind, try riding up the front side and going down west boundary, great for technical riding including drops, jumps, and some crazy ass downhill.

This has got to be the best damn trail riding I have ever experienced in Washington. The above statement is not an exageration. If it's a clear spring/summer day, then once you reach the top of Mt. Constitution after a grueling 3 mile climb you will be rewarding with breath taking views of the sound. Top that off with 10-15 miles of trail heading down and around teh island of fast singletrack, old growth forests and water to swim in during a break, and you have the makings for a wonderful weekend. We had two trips out there last year and will be working on the trail next month. May not be open to bikes every weekend. Check before going over.

These trails are closed from May 15th to Sep 15th...why is that I asked? Because they are damn fast and if there were hikers here we would run them over because out brakes do not work when going 30mph down buttery singletrack! Seriously though, the lack of any technical riding is more than made up by the scenery atop Mt. Constitution and the trails that loop throughout this park.

Not technically challenging though great place to soak in the island beauty. If looking for good workout leave car in Anacortes and ride off the ferry 17.1 miles to Moran trailheads & camping, enjoy the views while on the mountain and for daytrips keep yer eye on the time unless you like to push it to the limit and sprint to catch the ferry ! Good riding is Sep15-May15 when trails R open & crowds R gone.

Although some trails are closed, there's still some fantastic singletrack to be had in Moran. Go to Wildlife Cycles in Eastsound for all the info. Ride more, drive less.
