Ride Summary:
A variety of terrain for a variety of riders and skills. Trails carved out by motocross riders years ago.

Trail Description:
This is a fantastic trail with a plethora of terrain for riders of all abilities. As such it is popular and can be crowded. Be careful of other riders. The old motorcross trail is maintained by a super cool dude, Tom Deans, who was the first mountain biker on this trail.

Novice to intermediate riders will like the east side best while the west side is considerably more technical. There are several "rock gardens" in the west. See how far you can get without dabbing!

Also watch out for hikers.

How to get there:
You can find the trail from a number of different places:

Rock Ledge Park: This park is just north of the dam off of Fairway Drive. Take Highway 26 (either to or from Grapevine, depending on which way you're going) until you get to Fairway Drive. Turn right on Fairway Drive and just over the dam, you'll see Griffiths Corner store on your right. Take left here into Rock Ledge Park. Drive all the way to the back of the park along the lake and park. You can see the trail from the parking lot.

Sneaky Pete's Trailhead: Take FM3040 from Lewisville and go west until it crosses 2499. Continue west and take the second left onto McKamy Creek Road. Follow it until it T's into Simmons. Turn left on Simmons. Take right at the next stop sign. Take another right at the next stop sign. The parking lot is up about 1/8 of a mile.

Additional Notes:
Grapevine, Texas.

We ride Northshore once or twice a week. Older sections are fast. We have added lots of new trail in the past few years. About half the trail is oneway now. Some nice climbs. This trail is a blast. West side is more rocky/technical but plenty doable.

I enjoyed this trail in the winter, when the trail was almost empty. It has several dangerous places because of the two-way traffic. There are easy parts and then very technical moments - I've seen some blood spilled... I cannot imagine riding here in the heat of the summer days.

If you are new to riding in general, I would not call this a beginner's trail. If you have experience with other riding, ie. BMX or dirt bikes, etc., then this is a great start for your mountain biking excursions. I am a beginner (mountain biker) and have been out there several times and have really enjoyed it. However, I have been riding bikes and motorcycles on some pretty rough terrain since I was a kid. The trail leading up to Sneaky Pete's entrance is definitely easier than the section past that. After that it gets more sandy and tight but definitely, absolutely lots of fun. There are not alot of places to get water (?!) only the fountain at Sneaky Pete's entrance and a little beyond that you will find an RV park (to your left) when you hit one of the paved road sections and the people who run it will often times let you fill up your pack with their water hose. Fill up in advance if you sweat alot or dehydrate easily! If you're a beginner, just choose your

A nice trail, though a bit worn. There is a 1mi segment of asphalt in the middle, and about eight steel gates (narrow passages through narrow posts) that you have to go through. Overall, pretty good trail.

These are some really good trails. Easily accessible, well maintained, and a large variety of terrain. Most of it isn't hard, but a couple of hills would probably challenge even an expert to get up without stopping.

THIS IS A GOOD RIDE, IF YOU DO NOT MIND ALL THE TRAFFIC. TO MANY WALKERS ON TRAIL TO HAVE A GOOD RIDE. WATCH OUT FOR OTHERS COMING DOWN HILLS SINCE THIS IS A 2 WAY TRACK. HAS ALOT OF TOUGH ROCKY AREAS, TAKE BAND-AIDS.
