Ride Summary:
A technically challenging trail.
Trail Description:
This trail offers five loops of varying lengths and difficulties. The terrain rolls up and down small hills in Tyler State Park. The ground is very sandy not to mention the roots and rocky sections. There are some short steep sections. EZ, the first loop is short and makes for a good warm up. Loop A is also short. Loop B begins a the end of loop A. Loop B is the longest loop. It rolls up and down through a low lying area but the sandy soil provides more then enough drainage. Bridges have been put in over the major water crossings. About half way through Loop B you turn onto Loop C, which has a bit more climbing and is a bit tighter of a trail. The rolls are steeper, and there are a few more roots. Halfway through Loop C you turn onto the last loop, Loop D. This loop climbs the most and has some really fun technical sections. Loop D ends at the portion of Loop C that you haven't ridden. At this point you are rolling down hill, back to the parking lot. You then hit the portion of Loop B that you haven't ridden, and that takes you the rest of the way back to the parking lot.
How to get there:
From Tyler or I-20 (from Dallas about 1.5hrs east), take FM14 N. to Park Rd 16, which enters the park. Drive the park road counter clockwise to the Blackjack campground. Park there. The trail loops start and end here.
Additional Notes:
An hour and a half drive from Dallas.

We had a great time out in the Pineys! We agree that the switch backs on Loop C are completely awesome and can wait to get back out there!

Very good trail. A lot of uphill climbs, but one is
rewarded with a fair amount of downhill. Some very
fast downhill and jumps made by riders. Very peaceful
ride.

Everytime I come back to Tyler I forget how good it is, tight some short fast bursts of solid down hill near the end that keeps you going throught the tough up hill switchbacks. Yes the trees have been cut in places but go in the summer and take a dip in the cool lake clean the mud dirt and blood and ease those muscles. And that's why it gets a 5. I mean sure it's not in Austin but whatever.

More physically challenging than technical, lots of rocks, roots, uphills, downhills, killer switchbacks, and good drainage... road during rain, difficult but not impossible... definitely will build on your quads... Lots of people there but plenty of room for them... Thank God for Bodacious BBQ on the right just before you get back to I-20! Only drawback to this park is that they have done some logging recently that has left parts of the park a barren wasteland, and that is why I didn't give 'em a 5...

A really great package. Wonderful bike trails and quiet, nearby camp-sites. The Tyler area bike club have done a very good job in developing and maintaining this group of trials. Well worth the trip.

I really enjoy this group of trail. You can start with the green trail to get loose which progress into the b,c, and d loops. there are some respectible switchbacks mostly up hill. I took the trail back and another rider advised me that this was a "one-way" trail. I checked the rules and there is nothing I could find to show one-way. These trails are not very crowded so I would not worry to much about this issue. Just keep a good look out. $3 to get in the park for the day. This park also has great camping. A deer walked directly through our campsite at night. If you ride the trails around Dallas add another hour onto your trip and go to Tyler. It is well worth the trip..tf
