Ride Summary:
Several trails to choose from with a little something for riders of all abilities.

Trail Description:
The Texas Hill Country offers a large selection of terrain between single track and old jeep trails. Bandera has many more hills then the Austin area. The climbing will help get you in shape but the reward is worth the effort. What goes up must come down. And the descents are fast and smooth. The trails are well-marked trails plus there is an excellent swimming hole to cool off in. Novice riders should hang on the double track lower elevations trails for easier rides while sport and above riders can take on the radical loops bursting with nothing but single track.

How to get there:
From Austin, head south on US35. Follow SR46 west to Boerne and Bandera. In Bandera, head south on SR173 and then take a quick right on SR1077 westbound. After turning to dirt, follow the signs.

Additional Notes:
Bandera is the heart of Dude Ranch country so remember that bikers always yield to horses.

The Hill Country State Natural Area is one of the best kept secrets in the San Antonio area for mountain biking. There is everything from flat roads for family biking to teeth chattering single trak for the intermiate to advanced riders. The trails can get a little loose, so keep the rubber down and rip it up!

Get your pass and map at the HQs and park at the Trailhead Equestrian Camp Area. From there even beginners won't have much problem on Wilderness Trail (1), but as you get closer to Ice Cream Hill leave it to those with more experience as the terrain gets a bit more rocky and loose. Many spots on Spring Branch & Spring Run (6 & 6a) will require you to carry your bike, but that's part of MTBin'. The multiple low water crossings are fun and the trails over-all are a nice challenge for all levels. note: full suspension is a definite benefit here

A great ride now It's opened up to 50 plus miles. Be careful with the climbs cause they are real steep, I have never fallen as much as I did at this park, but it's still my favorite, Bring water.

Hill Country SNA is a great ride. There are about 30 miles of trails out there. All of it technical. Good trail riding area. Not recommended for those hard tail riders out there. It will loosen your fillings.

I will always love/hate Bandera. It is wicked- some of us refer to it as Mordor. This is largely due to some of the climbs that seemed to leave me pondering why God would do this to me. Lots of places to ride- rocky in spots.

This is my favorite spot to ride so far. There never seems to be too many people out there.
