Trail Description:
This is a network of many old horse and motorcycle trails. Most are interconnecting and some end up in Lipscomb, Bessemer, Wenonah, and Birmingham.
How to get there:
Go past Ole Shannon dump and before you see railroad tracks the trial begins to the left. Or take next left after tracks to 1st baptist church. Park here. Another trail head is up on right.
Additional Notes:
Take lots of water, can stop in shades creek and cool off but dont drink the water!

I am not real familiar with the Birmingham area and would love to have any directions you all may have in how to get to these trails. I am coming from UAB. My email is ehiggs85@uab.edu. Thanks for the help!

I gave these trails a good because they are just too convenient. I don't think they are really 14 miles any longer. The trails have been cut up with the addition of Wildwood, Oxmoor Valley Golf Course, and Rossbridge Golf Course. However, they are still worth riding if are in Birmingham. I did not have much time but a buddy and I parked at the Church off Shannon Road and then did about seven miles. I have looked it up on google maps for Satellite and I think that probably ten miles is ride-able. I am going back and will post again what my computer was able to measure. One word of warning, there is a guy that watches the Church. He had not problems with us parking and/or riding. Actually, he watched the car for us but his dog is very intimdating. The dog's name is Brodie and he ended up being very nice but still about 100lbs and he looks mean.
Concerning the trail...you can go either way off Shannon Road. Heading North you will hit the Oxmoor Valley Golf Course la

well it cut me off....you hit the lake so it is not worth it. On the south side you can ride for a good while. You go all the way to Ross Bridge if you stay near the rail road tracks. If you head off to the left you will cross Shades Creek. It is pretty but like the trail listing states. I would not drink the water. I think riding to Wildwood is probaby a waste but I have not tried it in years. It was always too swampy. - Jason

I've been going all over on these trails, they're great. There are more good ones on down Shannon, off of Golden Forest Drive. They cross the mountain and end up on Lakeshore/Wildwood.

Good downhills, hard steep uphills. Be aware of 4 wheelers.
