The trails at Gibbs Lake are awesome. My uncle helps to build new trails. The loop around the lake is a good one for average or less than rider. There are also some very hard uphills and downhills on other trails. All around it is a fun place to ride for riders of all levels. If you haven't rode there , you really should get out there. You'll have a blast.

Fun trails, but brutal for newbies (and even not-so-newbies like my wife and I). Some intimidating downhills for the "weekend warrior" class, but beautiful terrain and very clean all the same.

This Jefferson County park is about three miles outside of Chimakum--good eats at the Chimakum cafe. Did the trails with 13-year old son on a sunny Saturday in August and saw no one else--both parking lots were empty. Trail map in 1st parking lot. Trail around lake is thru 2nd growth lowland Olympic forest and is 95% single track and 95% free of cabins--very nice; recommend counterclockwise for first trip as trail is easier to pick up. Note: Speed limit on West Valley Road is 35 not 50.

This is a great trail system. Very well marked. Most loops are short so you can reverse them and do multiple times. The trail that goes around the lake is very nice. some very easy, most moderate and a bit of technical but very well worth the trip if you are in the Port Townsend area. I went with some newbies and they struggled on some but had a great time none-the-less.

Park in the 2nd lot right across from the lake, remeber to bring water and take the entrance on the left that goes through the fence things. All in all a great set of loops/trails, I wouldn't suggest swimming in the lake afterward though, I live nearby and would NEVER touch the water from that lake. The trails are not techincal at all, some small inclines at the beginning and on some trails but mostly just slow steady inclines. For a great ride go up Scout until you see a sign for Americorps, follow Americorps, then at the end go down Watertank Downs, from there take Impossibowl and at the end of that take Escelator, but I don't suggest this if you are not ready to leave as Escelator ends about .5 miles up the road from the parking lot and its a steady incline back from there up to the parking lot. Definately drive unless you want to ride up 600ft. down again and up another 200 or so to get to the trail head, then do it again on the way out, also there is

This trail is a lot of fun and a lot of work. It's full of rolling hills and roots. When wet it's all the more challenging. You've got to ride these trails.
