Trail Description:
Allamuchy NORTH stretches from Waterloo Rd. in Byram/Stanhope north past Cranberry Lake. It is a very large area, with only one map available: from the Park Office. It's not a great map, but it is a necessity. A compass is also recommended here. The "backside"- over on the Cranberry Lake side- is much cooler than the side by Waterloo Rd, but it's all good. Lots of uphills, technical downhills, fast fireroad downhills, and alot of enormous "moab"-type rocks to ride over. The trail is a mess after a good rain.
Not recommended for beginners. Novice & up will do fine.
The trails are not marked, but if you've got all day, and feel like doing a little "orienteering"...this is the place to get lost for an epic.
How to get there:
Rt. 80 West to exit 25. 2nd traffic light, turn left. A couple of miles in you'll see the trail head- a heavily erroded gravel parking lot- to the right. Even tho there may be alot of cars in the lot, most are only riding the rail-trail, not the actual park trails.
Additional Notes:
Don't let the difficuly of navigation scare you! Get a map, take a compass, take plenty of water

Wickid trail network. Definately pick up a map before going out unless your with someone that knows the trails. I go here at least once a week. The white trail is ton of fun going down, just be careful because you can pick up some major speed. Two years ago i was seriously injured on the white trail. I flew off the trail down a revine and fractured my tibia/fibia and snapped my femur clean in half. All i remember was the sound of a 2X4 breaking, but it was my femur. The bone shot through my pant leg, I actully thought it was a branch when i came to. Another rider found me, because I was yelping like a deer. He found me shifting gears with my femur like it was shifter in a car. Quite a site...

Only went up the Red trail. Poorly marked, and hills to rocky/steep to climb on your bike. A bunch of downhills, flats, and climbs. Did get lost, markers stop showing up, got back by taking 206.

Ok, this is a monster of a place to ride....be prepared to get lost. Trail snot marked many to choose from...lots of climbing, single track, double track, fire roads. I spent 2.5 hrs there last week and all 3 of us crashed. Noone hurt but bikes needed TLC...bring food, water and prepare to ride for hours...
