Ride Summary:
Loop that combines a few great single track trails near Flagstaff
Trail Description:
This great 9 mile ride combines parts of Rocky Ridge Trail, Lower Brookbank Trail and Schultz Creek Trail to create an excellent technical single track loop. In the parking lot look for Rocky Ridge trail and head start up it. It's a technical climb but it is all rideable. After about three miles you'll arrive at Elden Lookout dirt road. Take a left and cross the cattle guard. After a few 100 yards look for a trail on your left that goes straight up (Brookbank Trail). After approximately one mile of riding uphill you'll come to Brookbank Meadow. Across on your right you'll see a water tank. The trail goes around and to the left of the tank. Stay on your right at the next fork an ride comfortably to a dirt road. Take a left to Schultz tank (approximately 1 mile from the meadow). There on the opposite side of the parking lot you want to head down Schultz Creek Trail. It's an awesome single track downhill for about 4 miles. Enjoy
How to get there:
The trailhead is located at the bottom of Schultz Pass road off Hwy 180,2 miles North of Flagstaff. There you will see a parking lot on your right.
Additional Notes:
Altitude: start at 7,200 up to 8,500

Dry lake hills is an area - not a single trail. If you
are going to ride in this area, be sure to pick up a
trail map at a local bike store. rides range from
moderately easy to insane. many social trails exist
but are usually very difficult. remember the
elevation is 7000+ feet. flagstaff has trails for all
skill levels - just ask a local bike shop for advice
before setting out.

Must agree with Soulminer, there are better ways of riding the same trails. Bottom line-get familiar with the area, be pretty fit, and be all-weather ready when you ride on this mountain. I have had it kick my pe-tu-ty a time or two.....But then again, maybe your pe-tu-ty doesn't mind being lost, soaking wet, and crashing back down in the dark.....Other than that, have fun everyone!

From the gate it is all down hill. There are a few jumps where you can get some decsent air. There are a few sharpe corners with drops. Going downn you get pretty good speed. Over all the trail is tight.

do not try this ride without stopping off at a local bike shop to pick up a trail map and some advice or warnings. rocky ridge is not even close to rideable. some riders, including experts, find it a very frustrating trail to ride, especially going uphill. the trail is badly eroded. next, the cattleguard was removed from elden lookout road in 1999. as of june 2000 it is still lying next to the road. what you should do is cross the road and ride uphill on what some call middle oldham. after a quarter mile the trail splits. stay left and after 300ft. the trail crosses elden lookout road and onto brookbank trail. this is a difficult climb. one mile up you will see a sign for upper brookbank which leads to sunset trail. ignore it and continue straight for a few hundred more yards and you will be on the meadow. from this point on the riding will be more enjoyable. you're best bet would have been to park at buffalo park and ride up lower oldham trail to brookbank. it is far supe
