Trail Description:
Hey I was out at Montauk piont. i never thought the trails would be any good because no one ever writes about them. but If your ready for a change check it out. buy the crummy map at the local two bike shops adn give it a try. theres even this place called Toy land on the stephen hand rd trail out there with man made jumps and things all wood it has a pivoting ladder you ride up and go out the other side. You will get lost but not a big deal. Must try if your tired of still well and rocky piont.
How to get there:
Head east on 27 just before Amaganset is a bike shop he has the maps. the hither hills trail is a couple of miles further on the upper fork. pass the overlook adn park at the recycling area. This trails brings you to the beach.
Additional Notes:
The hither hills trail has some beach sand pushing but not too bad.

I read the other review and I don't think this guy was in Montauk himself. First off Toy Land is in East Hampton not Montauk. Second the bike shop he referred to is a sports shop they sell boats and surf boards and oh yea they have bikes but not what I would call a bike shop. If you want surfing tips go there if you want tips on the trails go to Cycle Path for info on East Hampton trails. If you want info on the trails in Montauk try Montauk Bike Shop they have all the good trail maps and plenty of recommendations. The Hither Woods trails are actually made up of over 40 miles in 3000 acres of parkland. It is highly recommended to get a real map from people who actually ride the trails since the trails are confusing and not will marked. Both the owners and the staff of these shops are avid cyclists and ride these trials too. There are five trail heads each offering the beginning to five entirely different rides. One of the most special things about Hither Woods is you can travel th

Sorry I guess I went past the allotted number of words here is the rest.
One of the most special things about Hither Woods is you can travel threw more different ecosystems in a short span of time than anywhere on the planet. The trail surface over all is a hard pack sandy with not much in regard to rock, roots, or logs. The single track is unusually tight making it easy if you go slow and very tough if you go fast, especially during summer months One question I have about the other review how do you have 80% single track and 80% duel track?
