Ninham Mtn. MUA

Trail Description:
Some easy trails through beautiful forests of larch and oak near the parking area. Seemingly innumerable single track branches off in loops. Better to ride with someone who knows the area, as there are no trail maps. Hawk Rock lookout is a good destination.

On a clear day, cross Gipsy Trail Road, go north and climb fire road (long and steep) to Ninham Mtn. Fire tower for one of the best views - can see Catskills, Taconics,Manhattan, and Hudson Highlands. The first two sets of stairs on the tower are out, so you need a bit of "monkey bar" skills to get to the first landing. Not too tough, even for a 40 year old.

How to get there:
From Junction of Rt. 52 and 301 in Carnel, NY, take 301 west, cross causeway, then right on Gipsy Trail Road. Pass "Putnam County Park", About a mile beyond is Ninham Mt. MUA parking on right. Access to fire

tower is a bit further on the left.
