Trail Description:
Ride up paved road toward box canyon (black bear pass) Pavement turns to gravel and starts huge switchbacks. Follow up to powerplant on the right, take right. Go through metal gate pass old house/power plant. stick to main road for about 6mi.(big climb)Take right even though the left looks more traveled.(first and only right)Follow up steep rocky 4 wheel drive road. You will have to walk a bit. This climb goes on forever but it is well worth it. You have been above treeline for some time now and you are getting tired. There will be a saddle on the right and a sign follow the small trail up and over the saddle. this is where the downhill into bear creek starts. Take time to rest on the top and recover from the climb. Follow the single track all the way down. This is the most intense downhill I have ever experienced. Use extreme caution here, if you fall it could be all over. once you get into the first main basin you will begin to run into hikers, they are not very friendly to bikers in Telluride so be very nice and always give them the right away so they won't ban us from the trail. The trail will turn into a closed road and will eventually come out at the Telluride town park. The further you go down the more people you will encounter and the meaner they will be so suck it in and smile. I must give a final warning if you are not on every aspect of your riding skills don't even bother, you will be hiking.

How to get there:
Start in Telluride at the town park at far end of town.

To make this a truely epic ride, start from Red Mountain Pass (Hwy 550) Ride up Black Bear Pass and drop down Ingram Basin to the power plant, follow above directions for Wasatch trail, have lunch in telluride, ride the Ilium trail to Ophir, ride over ophir pass, take a left on Hwy 550 and spin the pavement back up to your car. Now thats a ride.

Altitude and technical nature DO make this masochistic. It's the longest 14 miles you will ever ride.
