Trail Description:
Trail is a loop. Aprox 5 miles. Starts out somewhat flat with fun dips and small climbs. You climb gradually unitl you get to a gate. Trail to left is Cattle loop Pond which loops back to main trail. Trail to the right is Mustard. Steep climb at times for about 1.5 miles but smooth fire road. At top there are several branches to choose from depending on skill level. Park loop ends onto main road you drove in on. Go to the right and pedal on the road back to your car.
How to get there:
I-5. take Bake Pkwy east towards the hills about 7 miles. Turn left on Portola Pkwy. Target shopping mall on left. Make the first right into a shopping mall. There is parking to the left for Whiting Ranch
Additional Notes:
It's a fun ride for every skill level. If your a beginner, do the loop backwards.

I'm twelve and I can make it to the top in 50 min with 3-4 breaks. I've done this loop 3 times and one of them I connected up with STT and the luge. Borrego is a great warm up and is slightly technical but don't go backwards- its a one way so people get pretty pissed off. after that you go to mustard road which heads up for like a mile and half. it's pretty much steep fireroad untill four corners. from here you can either go down whiting or cactus. everything eventualy links up with serrono cow trail and live oak which is a fast winding singletrack where i got going 15 mph.almost slammed into a tree though... all in all a great ride

fun, sometimes challenging, usually crowded. Access for mtbs is being debated so be wary of other trail users. Great for night rides

Excellent trail. Several different loops you can start in Whiting Ranch cross Santiago Canyon and connect with the trails in the Saddleback Mountains. This is also the location of a fatal mountain lion attack so be careful. This is a great ride though. I hope they don't decide to close it.

The trail was good for my first one. I went with my friend who was experienced and he left me in the dirt. It is really washed out going up the hill but when coming down there are a lot of steps. It was great.

This was my first ride in almost 5 years. It was great. The up hill ride really challenges those that are out of shape and I found myself doing a hike-a-bike for the last part of the climb. The downhill was short but fast, and well worth the effort to get up. The trail gets a little technical on the climb and can get a an unexperienced rider stuck. All in all a great trail to ride after work.
