Trail Description:
Completely singletrack other than 1/2 mile old gravel entry trail. Some of the better technical trails in Iowa, similar to Decorah area trails. Some good ups and downs with pristine singletrack. Better go in the spring or fall as the trails often become overgrown.
How to get there:
Get to Floyd however you want and take 218 North out of Floyd for about 3 to 4 miles. You will see a brown rec. area sign, take a left onto the gravel road, when the road turns right go straight into the parking area.

This trail is awsome. Its very challenging and is worth trying. It needs some work though. There are a few spots impassible because the water in the creek was high. If someone is willing to build a bridge that would be appricated. These trails are like Decorah's. They're awsome and have some steep climbs with fast decents. Its worth trying in the spring. Im orginally from Charles City and I've ridden this trail and it needs lots of work. It was rather challenging with the overgrowth, i got off the trail a few times. I think it's a great trail but the horses have done a lot of damage to it. It could use some bridges in impassable waterways. I'd be willing to work on the trail because it has the potential to be one of the best trails in North Iowa. If there is anybody else that would be willing to put in some time to help fix this trail up email me at emerrill86@hotmail.com.

I have mountain biked in Colorado and Washington and I was spoiled. I think these Floyd trails are great because I am originally from Osage and Floyd is right by me. These trails do need some work though, because places are washed up by the river and impossible to get around. I never thought there would be these type of trails though in Northern Iowa.

I agree with most everything in Klymer's comment. This trail has a lot of potential but it's in horrible shape. The trails are challenging in places and I really enjoyed the parts of the trail where there was pleanty of rocks and steep hills, it made things a little interesting. I went in search of this trail towards the end of August and the trails were overgrown in a lot of places. I got completely lost and ended up riding in circles. I never did find my way back the way I came, but ended up climbing over a fence and walking through corn fields to the highway. Overall I had a horriable experience but I give the trail a rating of 3 because it really has a lot of potential if there was a little trail maintenance.

There are a lot of down trees recently and the horses have been heavy, since they have been riding off trail to avoid fallen trees the trails have become pretty trashed and unorganized, it's too bad. I've been looking into building some bridges of impassable waterways which could make things a little more interesting, if anyone out there would like to help drop me a message here at dirtworld.com...
