Ride Summary:
Steep and technical loop, several waterbars and short steep pitches. Up to the top and back down the other side.

Trail Description:
Sledge/Grubstake Loop/Sluicebox are trails within Apex park that make a loop when ridden in succession with Apex Trail. First 0.8 is on Apex Trail. Take a right on Sledge at the first junction (right is the only option besides straight on Apex). Taking a right is tricky and tight, and therefore there is a turn out on the left where a rider "loop around" and hit Sledge straight on with more mo. Stay right during the entire ride. Taking a left turn shortens the loop, but provides other options. Sledge turns into Grubstake Loop which turns into Sluicebox (short, fast descent) which then joins Apex at the 1.5 mile mark. Take left at Apex and ride out.

How to get there:
From Denver: I-70 West, take Morrison exit, go right, drive one mile and take a left at Heritage Square amusement park. Take immediate right once inside Heritage, to the "lower" parking lot. Drive to the back of the parking lot. Trailhead is at the Apex Park signboard.

Additional Notes:
Waterbars are highly prominent on this ride, as well as other riders.

This loop is a perfect training ride. 35 to 45 minutes of technical ascent, follwed by a white knuckle plunge to the main trail out. NOTE: the first right turn off the Apex trail is the "Pick & Sledge", not the "Sledge" Heavily traveled during prime summer season. Try the Enchanted Forest Loop for less hiker/equestrian traffic.
