Trail Description:
There are several trails here to choose from offering moderate climbs, fun descents, technical sections, stream crossings and some loose rock sections that will challenge anyone. To get to the trails from your car, ride further down the road you came in on until you come to a gate. Here you can catch the Trabuco Canyon Trail. From here you can hook up with some other trails. You will be faced with the choice of the West Horse Thief Trail which takes off to the left, and another trail which will take you up the hill to the right. The trail to the right offers much more and better riding.

How to get there:
From I-5 take the El Toro Rd. Exit and go east. At around 8 miles you will come to a fork in the road. Take the right fork onto Live Oak Canyon Rd. After about two miles you will pass O'Neil Park and see a creek bed to your left. Park here.

how is a 20 mile ride/hike/run a weekend warrior type deal? anyways. i suggest starting off at blue jay camp ground (to avoid the off road 5.5 trek in at oak wild)and coming down trabuco trail. at the base of the trabuco trail you can either continue to the base of holy jim and go up for a 20 mile ride, or, take the west horse thief trail up to the main divide and go right for a 10 mile journey. if on mountain bike, reverse it, main divide to horsethief then up trabuco. trabuco is beautiful and the views are impressive. bring endurance level suppliments if your out for a mountain run. electrolytes, rock salt, hammer gel, carb replacement powders, maybe a frozen gatorade... etc. also, over 70oz of water is suggested. more on hot days.

If u like dodging animal crap when you ride, this is the trail for you. The trail is like a public restroom for horses and wild animals. The trails are mostly easy fire roads. But the single track can be difficult due to loose soil and gravel. Beware of the bushes, they are thorny and who knows what's hiding behind them. It's only a good trail if you want to get back into riding shape because of all the climbs. Otherwise, I suggest driving the other direction to Aliso.

You'd never find the trail using those directions! Go to the left instead of rt at Y. Take a rt on Modjeska grade rd. About 2 miles. Park anywhere along there. Gate is on rt side. Start climbing!
