Trail Description:
From the trailhead, start climbing almost immediately. Head up the Way Up Trail. This is a challenging climb due to the abundant water bars. It makes for a challenging trip back down as well. Once at the top, you have a variety of singletrack and dirt road options to explore. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the map at the trailhead before beginning.
How to get there:
From I-15 take the Valley Parkway exit in Escondido. Head south one block to Auto Parkway and turn right. Follow Auto Parkway for about a half mile to Howard Ave. Then turn right onto Harmony Grove Rd. Follow Harmony Grove for about 3 miles until you see Elfin Forest on your left.
Additional Notes:
This area is slowly recovering from a devastating fire followed by heavy rains.

Pablo is still on the 12incher. That's why he can't climb. I ride a full freeride/downhill rig and still rode most of it. Not bad for quitting smoker with a 30 lb bike.

This is a nice ride for intermediate to advanced riders. The way up is very steep and rocky in some areas but it makes for a good challange. Once you are on top there are lots of fine singletracks. There a nice lookout overlooking Lake Hodges. Be aware of hikers on the way down! Limited parking in the main lot but there is a overflow lot nearby.

I have been riding the trail for years and it is one excellent trail for 'very good' riders. The ranger chick is named Janet or Janice and she is a doll! Beware of breakins though, they happen frequently.

I guess Pablo can't ride steep trails! Myabe he's a roadie? Anyway Elfin is a fine park. When the lake is done there will be more trails. Lots of climbing, fun singletrack (and a hot ranger chick!) Soon to be connected to more local trails and hopefully to Lake Hodges trails? (Pablo needs to go back to riding his beach cruiser.

The Way Up Trail is a pretty technical climb, but it is well worth it. It may be a little out of the way but you will not be disappointed!

I think Pablo dissed this trail because he can't climb tecnical singletrack. Elfin is fun, but they are puttin' in a lake so a lot of the singletrack has been closed. The hot ranger chick informed me that new singltrack will be added. Don't listen to Pablo, decide for yourself.
