Ride Summary:
A challenging area to ride.

Trail Description:
Tough climbing, technical single track and unstable dual track make this a technical area to ride. However, the riding is popular enough for local races to be held every year. Several trails and options to choose from.

How to get there:
From Syracuse take I-81 South to the Tully Exit. Take a left off the ramp onto Hwy 80 and proceed through the town of Apulia. Pass Labrador Mountain and come to a sign for Highland Forest Park, follow the signs up steep hill to parking lot.

Additional Notes:
Avoid the area after heavy rain as it gets extremely muddy.

I ride these trails all the time and they seem to be the best i have found. They have everythin from technical downhill to a small freeride trail with stunts ranging from training wheels to gnar gnar. The only downside to Highland is that if you dont know your way around some heads are hard to spot and the crappy map doesnt help much. I suggest first timers go with someone who has been before. It will make your ride more worth it.

If you live anywhere near Syracuse, Highland is a great place to ride with a long, tough loop that can be combined with other trails. Beware of the mud; if you can read a topo map, avoid the low-lying areas. I've found trail markers difficult to follow on most trails as they aren't very visible. Otherwise, Highland is a good mix of terrain. Yield to the horses, but take note of the damage they've done to some trails. Good vibes!

One of the better trails that I have been on since moving to the NE. Definetly watch out for the mud - don't go right after a big rain. Nice mix of technical tree slalom, wide open climbs, a few racing down hills, and a manly-man climb near the end that is a burner. As of 8/5 - All but one trail was closed for a MTB race on 8/6. The one trail that was open seemed to combine several different loops and some new (from what I could tell from trying to navigate via the x-country ski trail map they give out), so don't look for it on the map. It was well marked off with pink tape, so maybe that is the only one open in the summer? Condition was a bit muddy but not terrible. Like I said - it was a nice mix of ups/downs, and technical. One important note - This trail was nowhere near as rocky as the PA and VA trails that I ride. Almost rock free...So that by itself is worth the 4 hour trip from Philly....

Good place to ride, using mostly cross country ski trails, as well as some horse trails. Please stay off the hiking trails. Can be very muddy in the spring or after a lot of rain. Terrain is fairly hilly and some of the trails aren't very well marked, but there are enough trails to keep you occupied for several hours. There is a donation box as you enter the parking lot, so give them a buck or two!
