Ride Summary:
Challenging rocky singletrack. For more challenge, do this loop a couple of times or explore other trails in the area.
Trail Description:
The trail begins and runs parallel to Gambrill Park Road. About a half mile into the trail you'll turn right and continue on the yellow trail. Take another left at the shack and then a left again at the intersection. This is a nice view point with some historical significance - Crampton's Gap. Continue straight through the intersection and at 1.5 miles make a right. Continue on the yellow trail crossing a road and follow doubletrack into the trees. You'll see some power lines, turn right and cruise downhill. At the bottom turn right and follow the Yellow Trail climbing. Reach a road and cross it continuing on the Yellow Trail staying to the left and head downhill. Take a right into the wooded area. At 4.5 turn left heading downhill and stay to the right. Cross an intersection continue downhill turning right at the base. Time to climb!. Pass through a couple of intersections. At 5.8 you're back at the lot. Turn right and follow the Yellow Trail up the first climb and head back to High Knob.
How to get there:
Take Route 270 North and then head West on Route 40. Enter the park by making a right on to Gambrill Park Road. Take a left and head toward the High Knob Scenic Area. It's best to park in the first lot.
Additional Notes:
South Mountain Recreation Area (301) 791-4767. Facilities available in the park

Juan is having Etrouble, he was saying that this trail is for experts, not beginners and he's pretty much right. Yellow is technical and will take its pound of flesh, some of us like that kind of thing. Take it from a local, the Watershed is not a place for beginners either...beware, no trail maps available.

The watershed and the park are both great places to ride. If you want some real fun try the BLUE trail its even better.

The guy who said this rocks is dead on! The guy who made some comment about being experienced and would rather ride in the mountain didn't even find the trail! this single track runs along a mountain ridge all the way down the mountain and back up. it is the MOST technical single track in the area. it takes a while to learn the trails (it's not just the yellow), but once you do you can definitely bang out 25 miles here. there is an old trail map in the first parking, but it leaves alot of the trails out at this point. best bet is to stop by the bike shop in rt. 40 on the way up there, and talk to the local. after that just get lost a few times, you'll figure it out.

Nice trail. If you drive 10 min past it to Hamburg Rd the watershed is even better.
