Ride Summary:
A killer climb to start and a whirl wind downhill to the finish.

Trail Description:
This ride starts with a 7 mile 2020 foot climb that will really get your heart pumping. If it's not pumping like crazy by then, it will be in a second. At the top of the doubletrack trail is a technical and steep 3 mile downhill that will challenge any rider. This downhill section is for advanced riders only. It is extremely steep, rocky and difficult. This isn't a trail to play macho on. Stay within your limits!

How to get there:
From TaosTake I-64 about a half mile East of the center of town to a picnic area. This is where the trail begins.

there is no such town as canyon, the entire area is called canyon (with a spanish flair) 1/2 mile doesnt even get you to the woods, the trailhead is easy to spot as there is almost always many cars on the left side of the road using the popular hiking trail there. Trail described here is on the right, go through the picnic area and you will see the trail head on your right as you head up canyon. Have fun.

This entire description is very confusing. One mi. from Taos Square will barely get you to the little town of Canyon. I believe this is the Devisadero Loop which is just across the Hwy. from the S. Boundary Trail trailhead at El Nogal so use those directions rather than the above. Yep, this is a good one all around w/ views of Taos below and a neat rock outcrop at the top. I only remember singletrack and I don't think 4-wheelers are allowed. I remember the loop convention being clockwise so that the descent is almost a beeline to the valley floor, therefore, going up you will take a left at the loop feeder splitoff. The elevation gain is more like 1,100 ft. and the total distance is 6 mi. There is a severe penalty for littering so don't!
