Trail Description:
There are a bunch of trails here. Most start at the base of the water tower. Pick a trail and start exploring. many trails loop back on themselves making it fairly easy to find your way around.
How to get there:
From Albuquerque Take I-25 North past I-40 to Montgomery Rd. Follow Montgomery until you reach Glenwood Hills Rd. Turn left and follow Glenwood Hills Rd. to the watertank. Park here.

More goatheads than any trail, slime up. Views are nice, many trailheads. This is a wide multi use trail, no singletrack, except for side trails.
Plenty of mild climbing.

I suggest parking at the tram (about 1 mile north of Paseo Del Norte) and follow the signs to the top. Park in the SE corner - you'll see the trail head. A steep ride (1/2 mile) until you reach a water tower. From here, you decend for several miles and can ride this trail past I-40, but have to take a short detour if that's your desire. It's roughly 15-17 miles of trail from the tram to I-40. Takes about 3-4 hours depending on you riding.

I really enjoy the ride. the ride is a good measure to see if you are an okay cyclist or a good one, when you are climbing the first mile. Yes, lots of hikers..only downside.

Don't forget there are more hikers than bikes, many are shared trails, lots of blind corners on the foothill portion.

Check the top of Indian school rd. the ride to elena gallegos is awesome. there is are huge granite boulders to climb right off the side of the trail!!! this trail will take you to the top of the park and you can snake the top of the canyons all the way to the tram!!! tower 1 is the nasty climb.

There is no water tank at the Glenwood Hills trailhead. If you want to go to the trail head with the water tank, then go up Indian School Rd.

This is the trail in which got me hooked on riding. Thanks to Mike at Bike World, I have found my sport. Once again if you would like to go on a guided ride Call any Bike World and ask for me. Give them your number and they will call me and let me know. I love to ride no matter the speed. Remember to wear your helmet and be safe.

Tramway is the cross street; so you can get there from any direction. It is a schlep from the freeway. From Glenwood Hills, turn right on the appropriately named Trailhead road. Parking lot at top. I did not see any water tower. There is another parking lot just past Tramway on Academy (that one seems closer to the riding, but there may be a fee). This is something for everyone. Not too hard for beginners, some climbing, but nothing too technical. There are some hardcore (evil) side trails with grades over 16% and bathed in things that have prickers. If you stick to the main trails, it is a hootenany of fun.

I ride these trails a few times a week. Many variations to choose from. Bring pump and a spare tube. Flats easily happen, due to chollas and our infamous goat-heads. Love these trails. Fast and fun, with some series of leg-burners.
