Trail Description:
As you would expect, this ride can get extremely hot during the summer. Plan your ride accordingly. There are a few trails here, but nothing that is too confusing so you shouldn't get lost. It is wide open so you can often see where the trails go. The trails are rocky in places and sandy in others. You may even see some wild Mustangs roaming around.
How to get there:
In Las Vegas, take I-15 to Blue Diamond Road. Go West on Blue Diamond towards the town of Blue Diamond. About 6 miles past town, look for a gravel road on the left side. About a half mile past is a pile of rocks on the side of the road where you can park.

The directions you've given are misleading! On Blue Diamnd highway DO NOT take the right turn to Red Rock/Blue Diamond stay on the highway and look for cars parked on your right approx 3 miles down from BD/RR turn off or go another mile more and see an outhouse (?) on your left with a parking lot and a gravel road heading south. For a good up and back fast descent pedal from this lot, down the gravel rd, first dirt lot on left go thru break in fence and climb to the lookout over Vegas (40 min climb-stay on main trail). This is Dead Horse Loop. Turn around and bomb down-fast & fun. There's tons of trails on both sides of the rd-not technical at all besides DHL & the Hurl but its fun, fast, and buff! Enjoy!

Kicked my butt today. Lots of uphill and sandy and big rocks at times. Very pretty ride. Xtra food and water, you will run out!! Thorn protection a must for tires, 4 flats 2 from thorns. Passed wild burros and their babies, cool!

Much more mellow than bootleg canyon, many trails (that aren't on the maps) you can easily spend an entire day riding all sorts of terrain. Bring plenty of water.

I was in Las Vegas on a business trip in Nov 05, so decided to check local mtb rides. Escape Adventures booked me for a half day guided ride for $109 last day there but then cancelled. I did not know what to do, checked yellow pages, found bike rental shop in small village Blue Diamond, 20 miles from the strip, took rental car for $30 early in the morning and was at the McGhies's Bike Outpost at 8:30am, rented Trek 70 for $37 and ya-hoo!!! In the bike shop tey give you the map, not very detailed, but you cannot get lost. I took the Inner Loop - it is not very difficult, but excellent trails, some parts have rocks or sand but mainly pretty fast single track trhu cactus trees. I saw burro family, jack rabbits, kangaroo rats etc. It was a dry clear chilly day 60F - perfect ride. Do not miss this if you are coming to Vegas.

This area has 2 trailheads off Blue Diamond Road...one on the North and on the South. You can also start in Blue Diamond. I like to start at the lowest point (the city), knowing I'll pedal uphill to start, then enjoy long winding trails and the rollercoaster ride on the way back. The loops here can be as short as an hour, or can be very long...taking up an entire day. From Blue Diamond to the westmost point (staying on the north side of the highway), you'll go up 800 feet in 5 miles of climbing - Blue Diamond is 3300 ft, trail peak is 4200 (I take a GPS every trip). Going back to Blue Diamond is about 7 miles, depending on the route, and you'll hit everything from sand, to packed clay trails, quick 100' climbs and stretches where you can hit 20mph. This is more cross-country, so this area will build your endurance more than test your jumping technique. Anyone wanting topo or trail maps on the north side, just drop me a line: kevincspence@yahoo.com. I've haven
