This trail isn't very technical, but it doesn't lack for challenges either. It's fast, but does indeed have lots of climbing. Like someone said, it's a great training area (particularly for those who race endurance events.) One thing, though -- the 22.5 mile loop is the "short" loop. If you want to do it all, instead of turning right at the road when you pop out around mile 15, cross the road and go up the slope ont he opposite side. This is where the real climbing is, though, including the back side of the old Blue Mountian Ski area. All told, full mileage around 29 if you include this area. No short cuts for either -- it is one big loop of 22.5 or 29. Not reall ymany options to do less unless you turn around. I've trained here for 24 hour events -- 4 loops (2 big, 2 small) got me 100 miles, which was doable, but added up to almost 20K feet of climbing, so I was pretty much toast at the end. Very fun fast sections on the way back if you go counter-clockwise.

Unless I missed something, Blue Marsh is very flat, wide and basic riding. Not tech. by any means. The long loop takes a very long time to ride and is a good workout, but there is nothing challanging here.

This was my first every mountain bike ride, I am a roadie and though I am in good shape it was a heck of a work out and not easy by any means. It was technical for me as I have never riden before but I am sure riders of all levels will get enjoyment from it. Newbies just be careful of the steep decents lots of roots to throw you off if your not adept to picking a good line.

Very nice, safe ride. You will find this is a great day trip. I suggest going on a rainy day due to less people on the trail. If you raced this in less than an hour you missed most of the ~30mi loop unless your on a dirt bike ( dirt bikes not permitted ) Good Luck!

this is a great trail but kinda boring to me cause its so smooth but any one who likes a smoth ride and lots of hills its a 5 star trail if your looking for a rocky insane trail look up bear creak ski resort trails, in the begining of october i raced at blue marh and got 3rd in 43 min and i also raced at bear creek three weeks b4 and got second at 53 min

I give it a 4 cause it's a long, boring grind. No tech sectons, some great scenery, a couple short but fun downhills. Its just a long endurance ride, a great training ride or afternoon getaway. Its 30 solid miles and some of the climbs are brutal, it will definitely test you, so be in shape! Ive done it on singlespeed twice. I completed the 30 miles in 3hrs and 15 minutes, not counting the 20 mins or so I had to stop and breathe. Its a beautiful place! No cell signal so bring a friend. Start out in the parking lot where the lock and dam are located, rail head is opposite the lot you can ride right over the dam.

First visit today. Did the entire loop and my ass is whooped! Entire loop is pristine for biking and I highly reccomend a visit to anyone who is into physical fitness. I will return!

Nice long endurance ride. Not very technical, but you will need your energy to do the 22.5 miles with all those hills. As mentioned before, it ain't no joke, so bring your water and then some extra. You will need some energy food too if you plan to do the whole loop. Go with a few friends so you don't get fouled up with the trail markers and in case you need repairs. Great ride-- be in shape before you go.
