Ride Summary:
A circuit of three short trails.

Trail Description:
Sprague Brook is one of the two legal places to ride on public land in Erie County. All of the trails in the park are open to bikes. While the trails are short it is a cool area to ride. The county keeps the trails in good shape making the area a good place to ride when other places are too wet from rain or snowmelt.

Stay off the ski trails once it snows. They are specially groomed for skiing.

The first trail is a cross country ski loop. This is reached up the paved road to the east. At only two miles this is the shortest trail. But the tight turns and rolling hills are a blast. A race is run on these trails (plus some road) the first Sunday of October each year as part of the Park's "Salute to Autumn". Most of the trail stays dry except for one section near the top.

The second loop follows several snowmobile trails. These are accessed from a trailhead on the right just after the park bridge over Sprague Brook. This is a long climb up. But what goes up must dome down! The southern portion, usually drier, is much more exciting. The northern trail is muddier and skirts some fields. They connect up in the middle to make it more interesting. Also there is a spur trail from the top that takes you to the edge of a cliff overlooking the brook.

The third system is a large loop to the northern hinterlands of the park. This trail starts out with rowdy singletrack behind the campground and then links up with a pipeline that is always marked with mudholes. There are a few abandoned trails off the pipeline to the east. But they do not go very far.

How to get there:
Rt. 240 between Glenwood and East Concord, about a half mile or less south of Kissing Bridge. Look for the sign at the intersection of Foote Rd and 240 .

There is also a long XC loop that connects the cross country ski trails with the snowmobile trails. It is not very technical but it is very smooth and has amazing flow. It's as close to a natural XC pump track as it gets. It rides next to a lot of ravines and ridges with good views. All and all an excellent trail. Cookware Sets

The Western NY Mtn Bike Assoc. has changed Sprague Brook since the above was written. An additional 30 minutes of tight single track, lots of rollers and tight twistys, beautifully cut trails connecting the cross country loop with the snowmobile trail and guiding you off of the usually swampy gas line. A good ride is now very good. Hats off to the trail work from WNYMBA.
