Trail Description:
The Erie County Forest is one of the two legal places to ride on public land in All the trails in this park used to be open. However, in 1992, during a wet summer, too many riders hit the trail in muddy conditions. While the park closed many of the good trails to bikers there are still several trails open to bikes that are a ton of fun. These trails are marked with yellow blazes in the park, and in red on the map.
The trails that are still open to bikes tend to be straighter, wider and muddier. But the park offers stunning natural beauty and is a fun place to ride.
The park is spills over on to both sides Genesee Road. The north side is smaller and offers a few loops of single track.
On the south side, you can enter the trails either on the main dirt road, or on the ski trail loop on the east side of the park. The ski trail loop cuts through a growth of pine trees. Most of this trail is wide and straight. Also, the only link to other trails in the park has been designated "no bike" (yellow blaze), so you can't connect up with other trails unless you head back to the road.
Down the dirt road you can climb to the plateau. From this point, there are several long fire break trails that penetrate deep into the in the woods. They are steep enough to get your blood pumping! Many of these can be seriously muddy!
The best trail leaves from the dirt road after it descends for a second time and crosses another creek. Following the trail as it chases the creek brings you into an area that is a virtual twin to the Adiron Dack Wilderness. The trail dead ends at a big beaver pond. However, not all your tracks need to be retraced, as a snowmobile trail joins it about half way back to the dirt road.
How to get there:
Visit the town of Sardinia and look for the Genesee Road. It is straight and runs east and west. You can pick it up where it intersects with 219 or 240 (in E. Concord) (go east from these routes), or from 16 (head west).
