Ride Summary:
Great out and back ride to Cape Solitude with spectacular views of the Grande Canyon
Trail Description:
This is an excellent ride if you want to enjoy the Grande Canyon. From the parking area at Desert View lookout on the South Rim Drive, head east for a few 100 yards and turn left to the Ranger station. Check in first with the ranger and then head out on what appears to be a nice trail until it deteriorates on the way down. After about 2 miles you'll come to a fork. Stay left. After another 6 miles you'll come to a gate. After the gate take a left and pass another gate. The next 7 miles will take you to Cape Solitude with great views of the Grande Canyon. You'll see Granite Gorge to the west, Marble Canyon to the north and Indian Land to the east. Once at Cape Solitude you can look below (a vertical mile) and see where the Little Colorado River meets the Colorado River. Awesome! This is a great place for camping so make sure you are self sufficient in terms of all food and water. Remember, take out what you bring in.
How to get there:
From Tusayan, head north on Hwy 180 for approx. 6 miles to Desert View lookout.
Additional Notes:
There is no water at Cape Solitude so make sure you carry plenty
