Trail Description:
On the edge of the park near the university you'll find some fair downhills. This is called Cardiac Hill. You can find it by taking the right before Carpenter State Park from HWY 896 and follow this road until it ends at Creek Road. There is a trail going up the hill. The trail is about a half a mile long. At the top go to the left for about a quarter mile and there's another downhill which is twice as long as the previous. The technical challenge is not too "extreme" but they can be taken very fast! At the bottom of Cardiac Hill, you can follow Creek Road North for a mile. Cross the road and keep heading North on the dirt road and the roads shifts into a flat singletrack for about four miles. This is a good place for beginners to get a taste of singletrack without getting into trouble.

How to get there:
From Newark take HWY 896 North two miles and you'll see signs for Carpenter State Park or White Clay Creek State Park on the right.

Additional Notes:
There's frisbee golf if you like ditching the bike. Park Office (302) 368-6900

Ive been riding the trails in central pa and on south eastern recently which is good, but as everyone else has said, this place is the best. the skills trail is great so is the lenape across papermill roads in middle run. ever since i heard about this i have been coming here like twice a week. a great time every time guaranteed. special thanks to the delaware trailspinners for keeping this place perfect

I've been riding 15 years now all over the US of A and I gotta say these trails are just about the most fun I've ridden(central east coast)ha ha.I live in Maryland and still ride'em once a week. If you live anywhere within the NJ, VA, MD, PA, DE, WV area you have to get there. There are too many trailheads to mention just go to Bikeline(bike store in Newark), they will direct you. Also check out kencox.net(great map!!). Please take my word for it,if you dont get here today...you'll be one day older when you do! Seriously go..NOW! Dont forget your helmet though, those trees are close.420.

I've biked on Long Island and haven't been out since I moved to DE. I would love to ride here but not sure of the trails or how to get there. If there is anyone that wants some riding company or knows of a group that rides on the weekends I'd love to join. Email me at jtcroce@hotmail.com Thanks, Joe

i go on these trails about everyday and love every minute of it some sections are better than others my preference is the middle run area because its pretty technical throughout the whole trail with steep drops

I rode for about 5 years in Santa Barbara, and 5 around mount tam in Marin county before moving back to the east coast. All i can say is these are some of the most excellent trails I have ever ridden here. All very well maintained. it's definitely like being on a roller coaster. the new skills trail is amazing. (expert riders only) new trails being carved every day. as mentioned previously, the david english trail is a great loop. Brians field trail (skills trail off of that) Whitely farms trail and check the middle run area.

Wow...Is how I can sum this area up in one word. Hard-packed, rolling, twisting, snaking, swooping, woopdeedo singletrack through fields and forests. I cannot believe I have never ridden it before. The skills course left me with an incredible rush, something I have not felt since I first made it down dead mans hill at the age of 7 on my sissy barred bananna seated 20 inch Kent. Excellent for all abilities but please keep it clean! Watch out for fellow riders and hikers, I would hate to lose the Privilege of ridding there. Thank you to whomever has cared for this trail - it is wonderful.

I have been riding 25 years. Seriously. I've been to Moab (4x), Fruita, Crested Butte, Mount Tam, Downiville, Slatyfork, Sawtooth Mountains (Idaho), Vancouver's North Shore and many, many other less well known mountain biking destinations. I began exploring White Clay Creek just a month ago despite living just an hour away after my bike shop dude recommended it. I state without reservation that White Clay Creek State Park together with the Middle Run Natural Area (a.k.a. New Castle County Park) have the greatest concentration of fun singletrack trails anywhere I've ridden. The trail system is defined by a combination of tight, twisting singltrack in the woods and thoughtfully laid out swoopy trails in the fields. The areas benefit from hills of relavtively low altitude which means that the climb to ride ratio is generous. While these trails are very good for rote beginners because there is relatively little exposure to hazardous elements like cliffside trails or

There a ton to say about this trail i have biked every square inch of it and the parks service keeps adding more and more. This is a very high speed technical course with open fields, close tree proximities, and some fun jumps. When you arrive there are maps, if you take every single trail you will be riding more than a day. The best points: Bryans Field trail (with the skills course), and the David English trail. Go out there a hit it. Keep up the pace, and try everything. Overall, your ride can be as extreme or kicked back as you want it.

I have been at Bryan's field trail with my b/f, and it is fun, i had great time, the jumps and all that.
