Fun trails on the University of South Alabama campus.

Trail Description:
The University Trails are several inter-connecting loops directly behind the University of South Alabama. The trails are mostly singletrack with a sandy doubletrack down the middle. The trails are fast and tight with moderate technical challenge. There are several trails here, but they always loop back on themselves making it easy to find your way around.

How to get there:
In Mobile, from I-65, take Exit 3 onto Airport Blvd. Go West on Airport Blvd for approximately 3 miles to University Blvd. Turn right onto University and go 1 mile to Old Shell. Turn left onto Old Shell and follow it for about 2 miles to the intersection with Hillcrest. Park in the field opposite the church to the right. The trailhead is at the edge of the field.

Additional Notes:
New trail construction is common here.

The University Trail System remains a great place to ride. After not riding for 3 years, my wife and I have returned to riding and "South" (University of South Alabama)is a great place for us to regain our strength and energy! DIRECTIONS: Things have changed a lot. From Airport Blvd, West bound: Turn right on Hillcrest Rd. The next traffic light is at Old Shell Rd (continue straight). You will cross a speed bump, stop sign, speed bump and shortly after that the road ends. Park in the paved parking area to the left (behind the large building). Follow the road to the left, stay left, around the gate to the top of the hill. Enter the trail just past the dumpster. For more details I have a picture posted on my flying informaion website. Go to http://www.enotam.net, click on the Mountain Biking LINK. At the bottom are good directions. NOTE: I am only showing one loop of the trail...as I believe it is the best one for first timers.

Well,as of Oct 2006 the part of the trails off of Old Shell Rd are pretty much gone due to the construction of some student apartments. The back portion of the trails are still around. Go past the JAG Tran building and the trailhead(sort of) is off the dirt road that runs past the intramural fields. Not bad trails, very twisty and narrow.

I went by the specified directions and couldn't find the trail head. If you have any suggestions or more specific directions, let me know. I ended up going to the back of the University by the rappel tower. Thanks P.s. It was a waste of time because I couldn't find them

BE CAREFUL.... THE WONDERFUL ADMINISTRATION OF THE UNIV. OF S. ALABAMA DEEMED IT FIT TO GO AND KNOCK A BUNCH OF TREES DOWN, PILE EM ON TOP OF A SECTION OF TRAIL AND BULLDOZE AWAY A MAJOR CONNECTION AREA... but it's still the best trail around! Have fun...

These trails are for the type of rider that rides for the whole zen of the ride. It's a great trail to lose some worries on and work on your skills for more advanced trails at the same time. I am a student at South and rode the trails at least 3 times a week for a year.

This is a good trail to ride, but, you should know the trails so you don't just go into circles the whole time. Before you into the trails, just take a ride threw them, you will see people there, ask some questions. They won't bite.

I call this Mickey D's Playground! If you wanna come and play, this is the trail for you. It has some decent jumps. If you finish, you get a happy meal. This is not a trail to get in a good workout. Go to Chickasabouge for a real ride.

These trails are not marked very well, but they are still good trails if you can find your way around
