Oak Mounain has a great mix of trails. From technical and tight singletrack to fast roller coaster rides, to wide open fire roads, Oak Mountain has it all. This is definitely one of the top rides in the state. There are a lot of trails here so just hop on your bike and start exploring.

How to get there:
From Birmingham, take I-65 South to exit 246 (about 25 miles form Birmingham). Head West on HWY 119 then take a quick left onto State Park Road. From there you will see several trailheads to choose from throughout the park.

oak mountain is a good ride for beginners i ride almost every week its some fast single track but i'd like to see some more single track out there instead of just 17 miles. But, BUMP is adding 5 miles more of single track out there completing the "bridging the gap" project with a bridge over the dam which will be nice. Ignore the comments about how its so over rated its a good ride most people who are looking for a tough ride and a advanced wouldnt go to a state park in birmingham, alabama.

Well, it may very well be the best XC trail in the state, but it IS overrated. Except for Blood Rock, it's not that interesting. A nicely buffed track, but not worthy of a long drive.

Is a troll. This place is one of the best XC trails in Bama. Guntersville state park also has some nice ones just not like this.

THIS TRAIL IS EXTREMELY OVERRATED. ADVANCED RIDERS BEWARE!

This was my 1st time at Oak Mountain and it was an "on the edge ride for me". I was able to be on the edge of out of control but still be safe. It was awsome. There were three of us and we all were blown away. I will definately ride here again.

Oak mountain is a great ride. It is fast, fun, and easy to navigate. Blood Rock is the most technical part of the trail. Overall Oak Mtn is biggener to intermediate skill level. The terrain has lots of potential. It would be nice to see some freeride features incorperated throughout the trailsystem.

I am a professional rider and tend to ride it 5 to 6 times a week. Oak Mountain has probably the most diverse trails in all of alabama making it one of the best trail. If your going to mountain bike you go on the red trail. they say its 17 miles but its really more like 16.3 the suggestions below are for different types of people. STAY ON THE GO ON THE RED TRAIL TO USE ALL MY SUGGESTIONS XC Racers: I suggest parking at the boat rental and making a left out of the parking lot continue less than .25 mile out where the trail begin. this was you can travel up the 2 mile jeep trail and cruise at the south rim trail for 5 miles (You'll go about 30 miles an hour) You go down blood rock as well Downhill: I suggest parking as the North Trail head and making the first right possible on the trail. DOn NOT CONT. STRIGHT YOULL MISS THE BEST DOWN HILL!!!!! You'll continue for 14 miles up and down good parts but then at the end you ll go down 3 miles of a downhill on a 45 degree angle i

This is my home trail(10 min from the house) and I ride it several times a week when the weather is good and the days are long. I've ridden it clockwise and what I consider "backwards" - clockwise is rideable the entire loop, while "backwards" you'll have to walk up blood rock. I personally like to start at the rc/bmx tracks(Tranquility Road) and ride clockwise towards the north trailhead. This gives you a nice warm up before hitting the jeep trail up for @2.5 miles. There are some fairly decent views from atop but imposing neighborhoods can now be seen in some areas. Drop off the double track onto the "Bump" trail - it is the best part...lots of switchbacks, drops, rocks and it's fast. I complete the loop in under 2 hours but I usually don't stop for any break.
