Trail Description:
The trails tend to be technically challenging. There is even one section, the Power Line Trail that is extreme. You will encounter stumps, roots, rocks, logs and other obstacles to put your in-the-saddle skills to the test. Not much of a chance to build up speed, but plenty other ways to have fun. There are lots of trails to choose from so go have fun, but ride within your ability.
How to get there:
From Lenexa take HEY 435 to Shawnee Mission Parkway and follow Shawnee Mission West to Midland Drive. Turn left onto Midland then a quick right at the first chance you get. Follow the gravel road to the left and park in the lot on the right. The trails are paved to start. The dirt trail begins about a mile in.
Additional Notes:
Keep an eye out for hikers and horses. Yield the trail.

I have not personally rode my bike on this trail, but I have seen it. It is a pretty good looking and technical track. But since I live in south Overland Park, I could possibly get the rare opportunity to travel 15 miles to this trail system.

You can access the more technical trails directly by coming into Shawnee Mission Park from the south off of the east-west-running 83rd street. Just enter the park and continue north on the winding road that will eventually take you over a lake dam. Park at the north corner of the lake (you'll see cars and bikes). A couple trail entrances are visible just north of the paved path entrance. This is a network that will take some time to explore and become familiar with. It is very muddy after rain showers so plan accordingly before showing up. Bring your own water and insect repellent. Thorns are not as serious a threat as they are at other locations in the state.
