Trail Description:
This is a nice easy ride around a several lakes. Wawayanda State Park mostly just offers fire roads for mountain biking, but the roads can be in pretty poor condition in places making for a bit of a challenge.

How to get there:
From Newark, take Route 46 Northwest to Route 23. Follow Route 23 for about 15 miles to the Union Valley Road/Wawayanda Exit. Exit and go straight to West Milford. In West Milford turn left at the traffic light to stay on Union Valley Road. Turn left at the Warwick Turnpike and go past Upper Greenwood lake and you will see the park entrance on the left.

Additional Notes:
Maps are available at the park office.

Does anyone know where I can get quality trail maps for this park?

I've done the below route many times (probably with "single track") and can vouch for it's toughness. Some outstanding singletrack!!!

I live nearby. Try this if you like twist technical challenges. Fthe boat lauch, take the double track on the left to the lake overflow dam and cross it. Straight onto Wingdam roughly 1/4 mile to a right onto the New unnamed single track on the right. At the end go right on Laurel Pond to the end and go right 500' and go left on the LO trail. bear left at the end down a steep hill to the lake. you'll see a trail to the right (pickle) that follows the near shoreline for a bit. At the end, cross over Turkey Ridge to Rattlesnake slightly to the right. ( highly recommend return on this one) At the end, cross the gas line to another sgl track ( Pines ). At this point either return the way you came or keep beaaring right on double track to get back. A park map would be okay for that. Have fun!

Waywayanda is my home. I live right down the road. I ride there at least 3 times a week starting in the spring. If anyone wants to get a group together and ride hit me up , wwmleader03@yahoo.com... all the trails range from very rocky fireroads and some double track to some unknown singletrack and some very technical stuff, just please DO NOT RIDE ON AP (appalachian trail) THere is a SICK singletrack back behind the ranger station BUT it interconnects in some spots with ap, PLEASE ride this trail with someone who knows EXACTLY where they are going. WE want to keeps these trails mulit-use so please be good to the park.

Wawayanda offers a bunch of stuff. Tight singletrack that is technical at certain spots to washed out fire roads that are ruff and tuff at certain spots. From ranger headquaters parking lot (don't drive in to lake parking)...go blue (hoeferlin) trail to a right on double pond road (fire road) then and find red (red dot) trail on left. These Blue and red trails are twisty technical singletrack with moderate climbs and decents. Then go right on cherry ridge road then right on yellow (laurel pond) trail which is singletrack to washed out / tuff fire road with some fun acents and decents. Then find iron mountain (red) trail to a right on appl trail (white) back to where you parked. This is a fun run. I would rate it as moderate to moderately difficult. Basically a good fun ride...but some spots not for beginners.

I have ridden all over. I have to say, this place is one of my favorites.I live nearby in Wanaque NJ. I ride Ringwood State Park,, and Chimney Rock as well as Wawayanda. 3 great places. Wawayanda offers a good 19 miles of ruff tight singletrack. Even the fire roads I can consider lke single track because they are all washed out and a challenge to climb. The tight singletracks offer some good decents as well as rutted climbs. Water and mudd are found throughout. I park at the ranger station and ride across the lot. The woods start right there. There is NO pavement to waste your time on too. Great place,, have fun.
