Ride Summary:
Smooth rolling single track with a few log and water crossings.
Trail Description:
The Hobby Park trail is approximately four miles long and can be accessed from a parking lot off of Clemmonsville Road. The trail begins in the vicinity of an RC plane and car track and circles around the park. Even though it is short, the Hobby Park loop offers smooth rolling single track, a few log crossings, some climbing, and technical sections. Although the trail is mostly single track, there are some clearings and other spots where it is easy to loose the trail.
How to get there:
From Winston-Salem:
Head south on I-40
Take the Stratford Road Exit (Highway 158)
Head south on Highway 158
Turn Left onto Clemmonsville Road
Hobby Park is approximately 2 miles on the left
Additional Notes:
Pay close attention to the trail, it is easy to get lost in some sections.

I had a blast on this trail! But it's definitely NOT beginner. Maybe if you say Beginner has three levels...then it's a Level 3 Beginner. All I know is I'd have been abused and crying if this was a trail I'd have ridden when I was first figuring out how to manuever a chunk of metal atop 2 wheels going 30+ mph :) But it's a great location...close to town. No bathrooms...port-a-potty only and no water fountain either, so be sure to bring you own water refill. It was about 50/50 bikers and hikers-runners on the trail.....so be sure to watch out for those on foot.

I wouldn't consider this park's trails to be beginner at all. There are some very technical aspects to riding here: big drops, steep downhills, and sharp turns. The trail length posted is also inaccurate. If you do the trail to completion, it is actually 6.3 miles long. The first 3 or so miles are the toughest with more uphill and downhill action and the last couple of miles are flatter. Be careful in the fall, the fallen leaves make the downhills slick.

Hobby is probably not the best choice if it is your first time riding a mtn bike trail. I would consider it more of an intermediate route due to some steep climbs, tight turns, and decent drops throughout the trail. It is a great trail to practice technical maneuvers.

This trail is not the place to take beginners. Its a rather tough six mile trail that has a few technical areas as well as a couple of steep rooted inclines. I would say its more like an intermediate to advanced riders trail. Espacially now the rain and eroison has the roots more exposed.

i went to hobby park with hopes of a "north shore" style of riding, and i did not get that. there are some nice climbs, but no rollar coasters, log rides, or jumps in the trails. the dirt course was alright but the rc cars mess it up. this is more of a cross country stle ride. and if u want a dirt course u should check out country park. if u want north shore like trails go to salem lake or northwood
