Ride Summary:
Super sweet ride with a hot springs resort at the end!

Trail Description:
I can only estimate the mileage, so be prepared to keep your eyes open. Head north on the single track Bear Pete Trail from Cloochman Saddle. Climb up the steep first couple of miles until you get to a ridge overlooking Josephine Lake at about mile 3.5. Now you get some nice up and down ridge riding for about 6 miles until at mile 9 you climb again up behind the shoulder of Bear Pete Mountain (he's the man!). Look for a sign saying Pete Trail at a junction in a mile or so up on your right. You can either ride the first part down (a tricky decent on sharp rocks) for 6.5 miles down to Pete Creek (2000 ft elev. drop) or hike a bike. Go for it!!! You'll end up in a marshy area that you will probably walk through a bit to tread gently. Go east until you hit a dirt road. Go right and follow the road past the camping spots to the main Burgdorf road (USFS 246) and go right. Head for the hot springs!

How to get there:
Go north on Warren Wagon Road about 20 miles and turn at the sign saying Cloochman Saddle (USFS 492). It'll be before Secesh Summit. Go left on the dirt road for a bit to Cloochman Saddle and park to the side. Leave a car at Burgdorf Hot Springs or meet someone there.

Additional Notes:
Some hikers, equestrians, and motor bikes. Go in late summer, early fall.

First and foremost, this trail is a mother@*^(#&!!!!! Do not go unless you are ready for a gruelling ride. This is one of the best rides I have ever been on. I almost killed my best friend at the time because I was not warned. We went the total back way starting at Burgdorf going out the dirt road and back up Warren Wagon Road towards McCall about 5 miles and then a right turn on a dirt road about 2to3 miles to the trail head. Stop get something to eat get off the bike and start pushing. From there take a map or a guide. When you get to the top you can see from Oregon to the Saw Tooth Mountains. It is one of the best views you will ever see. All the work, it is well worth it especially when there is a beautiful hotspring at the end. Thanx a lot for the site, all the way from Los Angeles,CA. See Ya!!!!!

A more elegant version of this ride is to start and finish from Burgdorf Hot Springs. Head north out the Burgdorf Road towards the Salmon River. Turn left and off the main road at about 2 miles. Pedal through a informal forest service campground until you reach a singletrack trailhead. This leads across a wood bridge and over a boggy meadow. Once over the meadow climb an increasing grade that leads to the Bear Pete ridge and some wonderful singletrack. Just make the first major singletrack left and plunge down off the ridge to return back to Burgdorf.
